Appendicitis is nasty, but it can be fixed, especially since she went straight to the doctor. They will most likely remove her appendix, patch her back up, and send her home to get lots of rest. :)

Had appendicitis when I was 13. I was sick for the better part of a week before mom took me to the doctor. I didn't have any of the classic signs. I just yuked alot.

Because it went on so long, the dman thing punctured and leaked all over my insides.

...which caused all the scar tissue I recently had removed.

I was in the hospital for nearly two weeks.

On the other hand, a year later, my brother got appendicitis. CLASSIC pain in the right side.

He spent one night in the hospital and was fine.

She'll be fine. Give a call to her parents (or whoever might be with her at the hospital) and see if you can get an update.

She's not pregnant at the moment, is she?

just back from doctor they are now not sure what it is - nuts. they said give it 24 hours if it gets worse come back if not come back anyway. she isnt pregnant she has an (oh whats it called the birth control thing) possibility it caused it and numbers of other factors but she should be cool and im glad was a bit worried.

my ex of 4.5 yrs had his appendix removed while we were together...started w/just a little pain in one side. the pain went on for at least a day or two before he finally went to go see a doctor. i tried to get him to go sooner, but he wouldn't listen. he didn't think anything of it...went to work and ended up having to leave to go to the hospital. they spent a few hrs checking him out, did some xrays and put him in for surgery right away. his appendix nearly exploded in the doctors hands so they barely got it out in time. all in all he was fine...they kept him for about 2 days. i stayed w/him the entire time...only went home for 20 mins to shower and change. wasn't long before he went back to work. my mom had her appendix removed as well yrs ago...she said it was no big deal, though she said her pain didn't start in the usual area. from what i hear when u have appendicitis and u push in on the stomach and then let go the pains gets worse.

as for her being a birth control and that maybe causing this that is weird...never heard of anything like that. what kind of BC...the pill, patch, shot (depo), norplant (insert just under skin on arm)? nothing is 100% effective....u sure she isn't pregos? is her pain more to one side? is it contant? does it get worse when she does anything? any other symptoms...nausea, etc?

Happened to my wife last summer on the day the two of us were leaving for a long weekend get away. Instead she spent the weekend in the hospital, but everything went fine.

A guy at work had his rupture, which is when things get very serious. He was out for 6 or 8 weeks iirc. Sounds like you guys caught it quickly, though. :)

Mine had me doubled over in the middle of the night. Girlfriend kept saying we should go to the hospital. I kept saying I'd be fine, but I gave in and went. They took me straight in to have my appendix taken out. No complications, just no heavy work for a couple weeks.

If it ruptures thought, then you're in for some pain during the healing phase. Ask DT.

The wife, of a previous employer of mine, had abdominal pain and went to the hospital. They sent her home, too, to see how she does and come back in a week or so if it doesn't get better. Hers ruptured a couple days later, after being in terrible pain all this time. So take that, go home and see, with a grain of salt. Maybe a second opinion is needed.

My cousin was complaining about Abdominal pains for a couple days, so her parents took her to the doctor. The doctor basically flipped, told them it was appendicitis, basically told them it was too late for her to live that she should have been in the hospital days ago. So they took her to the hospital where they found out all it was was a cyst on her ovary.

Crisis Averted.

But if they aren't sure it's appendicitis, it might just be a cyst... from what I understand, it hurts like dickens...

Time for a funny story. Well not funny just wierd. My buddy has appendicitis just before christmas. Went to the hospital and such and got sent home after being told it was just the flu. Day or so he goes back and they admit him and do the surgery blah blah. His appendix had been burst for over 2 days! He spent the good part of 2 weeks in the hospital before they finally let him out. Now the funny part. 2 days before he got released my other buddy got put in the same hospital room for appendicitis as well. It gets a little crazy with 20+ people in one hospital room visiting haha.

But anyways she'll be just fine as this is such a common surgery to have done these days that they have it down to an art.

I was told by a surgeon that if he took everyone into surgery to remove their appendix and every one of them had a bright red one ready to rupture, they were bringing enough people in...

Second opinions are never a bad idea.
