I dont have my Supra yet...should be in next week, but was wondering about the height of the stereo. I have an Alpine W200 (doubledin DVD) that I pulled from my MR2. I would like to put it in the Supra, but am concerned about the location. It looks to low to really see well, plus the shifter looks to be in the way. I have searched several galleries trying to see if anyone else has this type of unit but cant find any. (this might actually answer my question)

Anyways, do any of you have a DD head unit and are my concerns valid?

I have seen one or 2 people with them (I think JMDigital has a DD stereo, not sure) but I wouldn't waste my money. The shifter will be an annoyance to see past (esp if you have an auto in park, or if you park your stick in 1st) and it will be all but useless while driving. And even if you're stopped with the shifter out of the way, it will be an uncomfortable viewing angle.

My 2 cents: sell the Alpine if you can still get good money for it (or put it in something else) and get a good SD and get yourself a lil extra storage ;) If you need it for navi, then I would highly recommend a dash/windshield mounted standalone. Or, if you have a PocketPC/Palm, do like me and go get a Pharos GPS Bluetooth receiver, comes with a good mapping program (Ostia). Only like 200 I think for the Bluetooth receiver. I love it.

Well, being parked and watching it really isnt the issue. I am one of those jerks who will put a DVD on while driving. Not really to watch so much, but the sound breaks the monotony of a long drive and the radio/slash music can get old. Almost like book on tape! And as far as the music goes.....do you have any idea how much quality music you can put on a DVD!!! Many, many days worth.

I'll throw it in. If it looks good, it looks good. If not, cd players are cheap nowadays.

Oh no hear we go again TTL. If you have an Auto and it is in drive you can see the whole face of a DD radio. As far as the angle goes only the cheapest units don't have adjustable motorized faces that will auto matically motor in and out to the anlge you prefer.

My personal choice is the Pioneer Avic Z-1. just as soon as I can gather up enough beans. The Avic D-2 is also a good choice, its what I have in my tacoma.

Hahaha Toyo you crack me up. I'll end up using the w205pretty much regardless, I just love the unit. I actually sell the Z1 and the D3 AND the N3 at my work, so I'm also very familiar with these units, and I don't like them much.

Yes ChadMkIII is correct... I have a DD dvd/nav setup.. Works fine, my shifter is shortened so I dont know what it would be like on a stock shifter. However, I can see the screen fine. Easy install the size is exactly right for the standard DD setup. No trim ring required.

if you like the amount of music that you can fit onto a dvd and teh extra quality you can get out of your music then just get a single DIN head unit with dvd compatibility like my JVC KD-ADV6160.

It works great for me and if you decide you still want the screen then just get an external one and hook it up the the video output on the back of the head unit.

only bad thing is that i wish the bottom piece of the mounting hardware had a cubby instead of a flat face. oh well, ill mount my SAFC2 in there when i get it i guess. it is a 7" flipout indash jensen dvd/cd/mp3 player with all of the goodies! enjoy!

I've been looking at going carpc for a LOOONNNNG time, but I think it'll be more hassle than it's worth for what I'd use it for. Integrating a decent sound card with sound processors and multiple amps and what not just doesn't seem fun :( maybe I'm just intimidated by it...I dunno.
