Can someone recommend to me a GREAT company I can buy a 7mgte from, including the transmission and possibly not including bad shipping? There seem to be many different places to choose from and I'm skeptical of several of them. Any input would be appreciated, thanks. :)

I bought a JDM 7M-GTE 4 years ago when I bought my car, I first ordered from a place in colorado, well my grandpa did and he ended up getting robbed outta 2200 bucks, when he told me the price and that he ordered it I freaked I was like there isn't a 7M-GTE worth 2200 dollars, then I freaked more when 4 weeks later it hadn't come and they were found to be cons, then we ordered from a place in texas, can't remember the name and got a JDM 7M-GTE with only 54k on the engine as well as a ct26, all the manifolds, ecu, wire harness, ps pump, resovoir, etc, AC, intercooler, all the IC piping, and a few other items. And it was a lot cheaper, and I didn't get ripped so after 2 months of waiting I finally got the to drive the car I purchased. The stock engine failed from the owner of the car driving with a BHG for several months which ate away the engine block and head making it unusable. I was happy though, fresh engine, it was a one owner car, great shape other than the engine, and its got all the options for 90 so yea I'm happy with it.

I started this process some time ago myself and today took delivery of a whole 7mgte setup. All in all I may have come out ok... won't know until I have a chance to get some help going thru everything. Best advice I got I tried to find to quote here but couldn't...sry...

But basically it went something like: be patient, do your research, and keep an eye on the forums classified sections.

I ended up getting my rig from a guy that is going v8 and doesnt need much of the GTE drivetrain at all for his project... I actually found my rig on a markII forum as a turbo upgrade package. Beware, it's a stressful process... you have to work out a good way of paying someone without being there in person... I used certified mail - which is next to doing nothing at all to insure a secure transaction.

Also shipping is expensive (my 2 pallets ran $500 (900 lbs or so...) from texas to mt (and that was a deal due to screwups, and the seller's wife tearing apart some poor guy on the phone at the transport co. - ie. the bill before the attack was around $1150.)

You can find good deals if yer patient - but it is getting tough to find full jdm rigs such as I needed (ecu, harness & stuff stuff stuff for an NA conversion.) Still, a jdm importer may be able to get you a decent gte and tranny alone for a reasonable price - i myself couldnt find much when i tried a few months ago tho...

my 2 cents

I'd be wary of a used jdm engine. If you go that route I'd factor in some additional costs such as rear main, and valve seals at the very least. Remember those engines are old and have been sitting a ass long time.

I went the jdm route recently. The engine I recieved had some light rust in the crankcase but all the important bearing surfaces were excellent. The crank was mint, bearings were clean and oil clearences were tight.
However when I went to check the valve clearance I noticed 4 valves in 3 cylinders were stuck open(all intake). I talked to the importer and he said "its a used engine" I said "I know that but, you can't expect me to install an engine with 4 valves stuck open I"ll have to take the head off to see whats wrong" He argeed to replace the head if defective. So I pulled the head off and to my horror found the block to be cracked. I called the importer and he said "you removed head off your warranty is void.
So basically those guys can be real d!ck$
Here is what someone else said about jarco

TaSe said:
Jarco inc quoted me 1695 shipped to my door with a complely rebuilt engine and 2195 shipped with a MHG & ARP's. 400 back after core so 1795 give or take. You should have did some home work and pricing before settling.
I dont know if what he said is true but i'd look into it(I thought they only sold used engines). I'm in Canada and shipping across the border would be a huge PITA . You guys have it alot easier when it come to ordering stuff

Well, i wasn't planning on just dropping in the engine seeing how my plans are to swap all the internals with exception to the crank. But your story about the cracked block is the thing that worries me the most. A LOT of people have recommended osakajdm. Not just from this forum but from a few of my friends from high school. Jarco sells the engine rebuilt... but I want to rebuild it myself so why would I pay extra for work I can do on my own? I just want to know if I buy from Osaka that they won't f*ck me over if the block is cracked because the one time I called them... the person who picked up was asian and I could completely see him saying:

"you removed head off your warranty is void."

What the Fuuuuuuuuu*ck,

I don't care if valves, seals, or piston rings are bad, but cracked cylinder head or block mmm no can do. I mean for 700, I'm happy to get the block, head, and all the intake/ignition/turbo components really if they are under 50k miles or around 50k miles of use.

<edit> thankyou for taking me literally?

now they sell them for 1250, without transmission... but free shipping! But it still doesn't beat osakajdm, which would be about 1k with shipping apparently.

Thats because if you fuck something up you can't blam them. The motor is ment for a stock drop in. If you put it in all stock and its mested up its there falt but if you rebuild it and do something wrong its your falt. You see!!!
