i ran a 1.4 and blew it do to improper block prep, i tried to hand lap it and was not succesful, i had the head machined to 25ra, and still lost the mhg,

i belive now i was not checking enough across the bores with a straight edge, it was warped a bit that i missed.

tho i didn't figure a cast block would warp much and the head very little..

any ways, running a 2.0 now and still a titian, i know it wasn't their fualt it failed.

Titan is the same as a cometic. Either gasket you would be doing good.
i was under the impression that the Titan was a copy of the HKS mhgs.... but overall they are supposed to be good replacements.

Nope, Titan is a Cometic...got the rivets too ;)
Make sure you remove the rivets that can interfere with the seal.

I got a 2.0mm Cometic MHG and I was wondering what rivets do I need to remove or do I need to remove all of the rivets or will I be ok if I leave the rivets on?

There should be an instruction/spec sheet that came with the Cometic...it tells you what to do about the rivets.

Basically, you lay the MHG on the block with the index pins in place. Look at the rivets to see which ones are on the block deck surface. Take those out. A lot of guys take all of them out ;)

Thanks for the info jdub. I did not know because I bought a new cometic headgasket from someone and I did not get any of that information. I will probably remove the rivets though. Thanks again.

Actually, I think they may have fixed that rivet problem... I know in the old days, Cometic had problems with that, but the last two Cometic/Titan hg's I got were fine... I have a Titan 2mm on my motor now and there are/were no rivets touching the deck surface, actually cleared them all fine... So if you dont have any touching, I wouldnt take any out...

BTW: Louis @ Paradise racing is running a cometic with arp's on his drag car thats pushing over 50psi and he hasnt blown it yet...

Yes, the new insructions say to just make sure that the head gaskets is properly aligned and that the rivets clear the deck.

Yeah...heard that myself. That's why I told him to lay the MHG on the block deck. I didn't know if he had a current production Cometic or a used/new one made some time ago. If the rivets don't touch the deck, they don't have to be removed.

I guess it depends on your needs, I'd recommend going with a stopper if you want high hp
I blew a titan 1.4 ;>

I had a Titan 1.4mm MHG on the engine I bought from Maxx Autoworks.
Lack of rivet removal and lack of a retorque (part my fault, part theirs. I was never instructed to retorque... but I should have figured that out on my own I guess) caused it to leak, not fail, after approx 15,000mi of hard driving. I can't say I've got any bad reviews about it!

Well on horsepower freaks, they said the titan gasket should be good for 500 hp...
Right now I want to achieve 450hp and then think about 500hp plus.

I know if i get the stopper in now, I do not have to worry bout it later on

Cheers,
Roy

Thats to cover thier ass... Up to 500hp, hahaha... Like I said, Titan is Cometic, and Luis at Paradise Racoing is running them in his drag cars...

60psi on a Cometic guys... The other car they used to drag race was a Corolla, you can see it on the front page, and that one was running over 50psi with a cometic... Cometic is all they sell... They stand behind them, and Luis is a really good guy... Just take this for what its worth, its just my opinion, but: 9 times out of 10, if not 10 times out of 10, the reason an MHG blows is the owners fault, not the manufacturer...
