Just wanted to know if they are worth it. Someone told me they there very little difference in performance and isn't worth the extra money but i want to know if any of you guys have a set installed and if there was any noticeable difference. I'm debating on getting them only because if they're not worth it why should i?

any useful input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

I plan on using one in my new build. I havent seen a lot of 7ms with one, i just want to experiment a little.

I've never used one but from what i understand of them, i don't see how they could make much of a difference.

From how i understand it The main goal is to scrape of excess oil and prevent the 'tornado effects' of the oil in the block providing less rotational mass.

But i also have read that the 7m crank barely, if at all, even touches the oil in the pan so the only oil you'd be scraping is from the squirters?

I had one in my build before yanking the motor for other reasons. We had to mod it soo much that by the time we got done grinding it to make it fit properly it probably wasn't doing anything at all. So I took it out and it wont be going back in. If you do use it make sure you take in to account the scrapper is holding the pan off the block by 1mm(just guessing). Which isn't a problem on the block mating surface but is on the front and rear plates, the pan wont meet up to fully compress your FIPG on those plates. So you then have an oil leak from those two areas.

there's also oil leaking from each bearing. and out the end's of the rod's in some case's. also the oil from the squirters is scraped off with the pistons and that end's up all over the place...

the idea is not only to have less fluid mass on the crank, but also keep more oil in the bottom end.

I come from a land down under
Ran a Teflon one a few years back, was a little noisy not bad enough to hear in most cars just mine is really quiet so it bugged me a bit.

I use the deep GrpA pan and it has louvres built in so I didn't really need the scraper, swapped cranks then didn't use it again and sold it.

Boostedfloto - Did you buy that scraper from me or directly from Kevin?

I had several people complain of having to grind the scraper also. It turned out that they ordered a 6m scraper to install on a 7m crank. Kevin makes the early and late model crank scrapers. if you purchased the 6m crank scraper and tried to use it on a 7m crank, you would have to grind a lot.

The reson to run a scraper is to remove drag from the crank. This frees up HP from less rotating mass and drag on the crank. It also returns the oil to the pan faster resulting in cooler oil. A street car will see little benefit from a scraper, but a road course, or drag race motor will see great benefits. I have never dynoyed a 7m before and then after with a scraper, but on a 1.8L NA miata, 8hp was gained just from the addition of the scraper alone. The me car also saw an increase in straight line rpm gain durning a road course race. An additional 4-500 rpm IIRC.

had it.
But when mounted with my engine girdle it wouldn't allow my oil pan to fit properly.
Ditched the scrapper, and just ran the girdle which still need a big chunk taken out.

I have run them in several of my 7Ms.
No leaks, no runs, no wet spots....

It has to be installed correctly, with sealer on both sides of it,
and a little extra past the ends, where the pan is held off the block.

Don't use silicone.:nono:
Use the actual Toyota sealer, or Yamabond, or
Permatex 'Ultra Gray', which is ment to use in place of the Toyota stuff.
( I know, it says 'silicone' on it, but it is nothing like silicone)

I bought it from a guy in Land o Lakes, Fl basically where I live. (Ishihara-Johnson Crank Scrapers)

I have a 6m crank in my car and made sure to specify it was a 7mgte w/ a 6m crank...
