Ok guys, thanks. I was just curious. Heat is bad for batteries but not having a hold down is worse. No big deal. With maintenance I typically get around 8 years out of mine anyway. Only on the third one since new and all have been Johnson Controls built.

How about a FG insulated enclosure with two 120mm 12v dc computer fans installed in the two available openings? Might get an extra 6 mos. ;)

Scott - so we don't totally jack your thread bitching about the weather, here's the pic you requested:

Thanks jdub, I was just checking back to see if anyone posted a pic...you saved me from going out in the heat to snap one, I owe you.:icon_bigg

Oh...you guys probably know this but Bosch batteries suck (at least mine does). I bought their "platinum" and as I understood/was told, it was their best battery. What a piece of crap, I'm on my second warranty battery and need a third. Won't hold a charge for shit. Ughhh....live and learn.

Thanks for the pic Jon! I think I can find it from that. And a great link you added as well.

I never imagined that this thread would sprout legs and take off. I don't mind the thread jack on the weather, as I live in a 100% stupidity zone. The weather man has quit telling us that it is going to be 100% anymore, and I guess we are supposed to just assume it. Yesterday I took a red plastic 16 ounce cup full of ice to the top, then water out with me to work on the car. In the time it took me to change my negative battery cable, the ice was gone, and my shirt was soaked. "Stupidity Zone" is a very fitting term.

JJ you must have been stationed at Pensacola at one time to know the truth about humidity.

Never stationed at Pensacola (wasn't a pilot in the military, was a cop) but been there several times. It and other places around the Gulf can be awful. I once spent a July in Moscow that was just as bad and our summer home in Odessa isn't fun at times either. Even without the thunderstorms it's oppressive and can go on 24/7 for days. Miserable, at least for me. I dislike high humidity and, as you've probably noticed, have a low tolerance for stupidity as well ;)

It's worse, but not critical. Mine was without one for 3 years, when I took my battery out, the battery plate looked like mirror :biglaugh:

I had that battery box on my 87 NA that never came with a battery tie down or anything, needless to say it got completely chewed up, and now my battery "tie-down" now consists of 2 royal purple bottles wedged on either side of the battery (rad and fender sides) lmao

Pathetic, I know, but it works surprisingly well!

I will not be going this route with my project car :biglaugh:. I purchased a new tiedown from toyota because this car didn't have one when I bought it either! WTF People don't get rid of your tie downs!!!

All the parts were only like $30 iirc from Toyota

I wonder if that insulating box is discontinued... it's pretty cheap! (for a toyota part)

Here's a pic of mine. The cables are longer than stock to allow me to run the easier to find Optima red top (terminals are swapped), so if it does die when I'm on a roadtrip, I can grab another without waiting for the special order one)

My car was missing a tie down also, I'm making a new one for it out of some scrap steel I got laying around, I'll throw it on and take some pics when I get my new battery.
