ya i used a car cover exposed to all for one winter, ( now we have a car port outside since my parents say they need the garage for their DD's. But a decent car cover for like $50 will be just fine. Just wash and wax the hell out of it before you put it away, like two coats of wax. Cover it and most of the water should just beed off of the top of the cover.

+ if your storing this car for a bit
fill the gas tank to avoid water condensation
throw a ton of moth balls in your car and leave glove box open and remove anything organic.
overinflate your tires a tad to like 40psi.

other than that dont worry about a car cover they wont harm a thing. The only thing you should have to worry about is wind, mine has blown off of the car 3 times this winter cus i didnt tie it down very well.

Any really cheap covers out there? I'm getting my car painted in January or so. For now, it's just sitting in the building's parking lot out in the sun. It's already scratched and I don't care, since it'll get painted and it will rest indoors later on. But for now, the damn tropical sun is trying to kill it. 2 outer plastic trims lost their paint due to the heat, and it gets damn hot inside the car. For now, I just got one of those windshield shades and 2 covers for a bike covering things inside that a friend lent me. I just don't know if he'll ever ask me for them at some point.

Why skimp on something that in the long run could preserve your paint, and a lil more life to the exterior. As far as the scratches go, if you get a nice enough cover the inside will be soft enough to NEVER leave a mark, and the outside should have some water repelling material. Makes for a heavy cover, so pita to take off, but why skimp here?
