Thanks Ian

My car pretty much sends some smoke anytime i come to a stop at a light from a good speed. And on start up.

would bad stem seals mess with the vacuum on the boost gauge?
would it effect the compression in the cylinders? (i.e if i did a compression test)

Whats the seals got to do with a turbo swap.

I would just do them if there bad..

But i hate when my car is acting weird in any way and have to keep working on it till its fixed but sometimes im like a blind man a strip club

If i were doing a turbo swap I would pull the engine and likely just say fuck it. Lets do them now while the car is off the road.

I am tired of hearing the cams pound away at the shims until oil gets to them though.. and the puff of blue smoke every cold start. Blah.

I come from a land down under
Buy a can of aerostart, fire up the engine let it idle and in small short bursts spray the aerostart at the manifold to head join and anywhere else there's a gasket or seal, if the RPM changes you've found a leak.

I have done this with Brake clean and no luck. sprayed every where for about 10mins lol.

Never heard of aerostart but ill see if i can find some and try that instead

I decided to take a video.
The car is completely warmed up.
I still could find any Vacuum Leaks (tried brake clean and some carb clean)

On cold start at Idle AFR ratio is 13.2-13.8 starts to warm up its 15.3-15.8 until its completely warm it goes to 16.6-17.5(this is where its at in video)

So i was thinking it looks like white/Greyish smoke maybe due to the Lean Condition?

Sound fixed

My car does the same too. I do know for a fact that I've got a boost leak though. Fixing that in the next few days hopefully so I'll let you know if it clears up after I fix that. If anyone else has any other ideas, throw them out because I'm curious too :icon_razz

From way back when in the days, I'm talking 90's", any smoking on decel usually an indicator of imminent turbo seal failure. That was the usually rule of thumb..

to tell you the truth this is what i was leaning toward in my mind.(stock turbo and possibly never rebuilt 148,500miles on car)

With mine doing the same thing, I can tell you it is definitely not my turbo. I have 2,000 miles on this turbo (freshly rebuilt ct26 w/57 trim) and it was doing it before and after putting it in.

Everyone be for seeing the video thought it was my valve stem seals none of them have chimed back in post video.

I also just had my head done. so i guess the shop had done a shitty shop.

do you have a Wideband? if so what are your readings at idle?
Also your vacuum readings at idle?

My vacuum's perfect, -20 - -21 at warm idle, -24 - -26 on decel depending on rpm. I do have a positive pressure boost leak somewhere though, fuel cut @ 9psi max.

No wideband right now unfortunately :(. Completely stock fuel/electronics though.

My head was also just done less than 10,000 miles ago. Used Felpro viton valve seals in my build.

I can only get the smoke to appear if I give it a hard blip on the throttle. Not necessarily to a fairly high rpm, but definitely wide open on the throttle position. But it does the EXACT same thing. Clean until the idle stabilizes, then a little bit of lingering smoke, and rarely (MAYBE 5% of the time) I notice it when coming to a stoplight.

Stock fuel system here also installed ATM. But i do have a Apexi SAF-C installed but A/F
ratio's stay the same if i take it off and run stock ECU and i still get the smoke

Mine started out being pretty rare now it comes alot more often. But still not on every start up and every decel.

I used the same seals.
I'm on 12psi only hit fuel cut if i shift really fast.

I also get code 71 every now and then. (EGR TEMP GAS) Cali cars only

I'm starting to think maybe bad o2 sensor? (not sure if its even possible to cause something like this)
