I decided to try it this year, and I'm a little confused. I was under the impression it would be free, but I ended up paying $19.95 to file both State and Federal.

Is that normal?

I followed the directions, and left a lot of boxes blank since they didn't apply to me. Seemed easy enough just like the EZ form, they even told you where on your W2 you can find the information needed to complete it online.

So have any of you E-Filed?
I did mine through this company, as suggested on the home page or IRS.gov.

:aigo:

Residents of AZ, CA, CO, DE, GA, MI, NC, OH & WI can electronically file their Resident State Tax Return for $19.95 when processed with their Federal return.
I'm in NC.

There are a bunch of FREE online services available, using the IRS's site for references.

From the IRS site, I used www.taxactonline.com a few years back... paid the 1st couple of times ($9.95) for the works, but their free filing is the same (without all the extra tips/evaluation). It's pretty straightforward to enter what you have and do it free.... I'd do the deluxe ($9.95) if there was alot of changes in that tax year... marriage, home, business, etc

Yeah... I just saw what my 19.99 paid for...

I need to mail in some forms, and when they send you a link to the PDF file, they're 100% filled out for you.

I just printed out a 8453-OL for to send in, and it was completely filled out with my information already. (Very convenient.)

Yeah... that's the 1st time. Once you've e-filed and saved a copy of your return, you can e-file next year, by just creating a PIN. No need to mail anything in. I keep the PDF copies of our returns and have intended to scan in our supporting docs (W2s, etc).
