I heard having a 6 speed is useless unless you have a MKIV rear gear ratio. And Jeremy words can't even describe your car. Sexy....awesome... ... one's dream car. Like my dream:biglaugh:

I forget what the diff's gear ratio is on the MKIV but it's in the low 3.XX or something. You have to view the added gear as taking another piece of the transmission pie. The pie is only so big. If you want to create an extra slice (a 6th gear) the other slices are going to be smaller, thus making 1st 2nd 3rd 4th etc much shorter. You'll run through the gears much faster with a V160 unless you get the lower gear ratio diff.

im pretty sure its a 3.23

but you can get a 3.27 gear for the MKIII from a one of the toyota trucks

and then the getrag works perfectly

mkiv is 3.13.. you can get a 3.42 gear (according to jeff lange).. i wish you could get a 3.27 i'd be all over it.. 3.58 gears are easily accessable though..

put a 3.58 and rev to 8+ and the gears wouldn't be that bad.. a 3.42 would be ideal though..

If I wanted a 2J and a getrag 6spd that bad, I'd just get it in a A80 where it was meant to be. But that's me. everybody's different.

I do love to see these threads and swaps though. variety is the spice of life(as long as it's not a 1G :ugh2:lol)

I have found some information on the V160 into MkIII swap through researching a 2jzgte swap into my GZ20 soarer.

Bassically there is very minimal transmition tunnel beating and a shortening of the remote shifter. The hardest thing on the swap is the speed sensor. The
v160 uses an electronic sender unit that sits on the oposite side of its driving worm gear compared to the R154 sender this means it is spinning in the reverse direction. It also has 31 teeth on the sender unit compared to the
R154's 33.

heres the link:
http://www.turbosupras.com/pages/en/pages/technical/a70 engine conversion.htm

Also the diff ratio's in the A80 is 3.266 for the JDM and 3.133 for the export models. This makes use of the very short ratios of the gearbox.
For me the conversion at the moment is in its planning stage, but more than likely i will go R154 for the simplicity of the conversion and its ability to adapt with other standard toyota parts.

Now i need to work out how to wire a conversion!
