Hey, anyone have any experience with red light cameras?
Got caught making a right turn, rolled thru at about 7-8ish mph late at night where it was obvious no one was coming. I'm a careful driver, and realized the intersection had a camera about a quarter second before it flashed. :-|
So, unfortunately there is a video on top of the photos. It was in Fremont, CA, with RedFlex Cameras. Has pic of me, license plate, etc...

So, any one gotten out of these?
Anyone know if the videos are allowed in court?
Help?! :)

Hmm, well, this is helpful so far. Lol.

Yes, yes, but it was sort of a technicality, if you will. It was a right turn. Just wondering about techniques for avoiding the huge fine and point on the insurance.

And, yeah, HellsLegion, they're all over Fremont and Union City, especially towards southern Fremont.

But, I think I can get out of it as long as videos aren't allowed. Anyone know if they are?

I'm not being a smartass, but why have the cameras if their not admissable in court? Just doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like you're going to have to pay the fine............GL

I mean the video clip, I know the still shots are. I just didn't know if they would be showing the video in court.
I don't know, its just a last ditch effort.
*sigh*

u can get out of a red light camera if there is evidence that you were making a legal right turn. at most intersections it is legal to turn right on red. if there is a video or whatever that will help you, however if it said "NO TURN ON RED" you're screwed. pay the fine and next time learn to read.

You still have to stop before making a right turn on red.

If its a first time violation just tell the judge you were running late for something important and they might drop it.

Lol...I had the same violation in Fremont and had to pay $350. $350 is the min. fine for that violation.

Where in Fremont did u get flashed? Dont tell me it was the same one I got hit by. I got flashed by the second big set of lights on Auto Mall Rd from Fry's Electronics heading towards Newark. The one opposite that place...Beach City where you can go rock clilmb and play pool and stuff.

I heard alot of people had that same violation. You know, you have to stop for at least 5 seconds before making that right turn...
reagardless if there is a sign or not. The judge will tell you that and he will also tell you to go to the cops and watch the video if you are still uncertain. I know a few lights were programmed incorrectly, that is instead of waiting for 5 seconds the camera would wait for 2 seconds before flashing. That mistake was discovered and those people within that time period had their violations cleared.

But I guess its no harm to take the video to court and if the video shows that you had stopped for 5 seconds or more before making that right turn the judge will let it go. And if that the case, do not worry, it wil be fine. The judges there are cool and they joke alot. Just smile and be respectful.

Ad if you like your pic taken alot, do like what my friend did. Ask if you could get more pics.

Cheers,
Roy

Haha, yep same one, right in front of City Beach. Fremont & Auto Mall.
And the fine? $359....plus some insane amt on insurance or a $29 traffic school fee.

So I'm pretty sure there's no getting out of it. Just thought I'd see if anyone knew of any loopholes. But I guess not.

The video is the problem, not the solution. I think I can get out of it by just the pictures, because within the elapsed time I could've stopped fully. But the video shows I didn't quite.
That sucks.
Basically, if they can't use the video in court, I think I'm good. But if they can, well, yeah, I'm screwed for sure.

Lol..I hate that light.
Yeah...$30 for traffic shool...

Well when I looked at the still photos i thought I was okay and the camera was was wrong. So did alot of people in court that day. But we all had to pay.

The judge will tell about the same thing he told everyone else..If you are not sure and want to come back for another hearing, go to the cops and watch the video. If the video shows you fucked up, then you fucked up.

I think the judge will ask you to pay for the fine unless you can prove with the video you had stopped for 5 seconds. If you cant, then there's about $400 gone to waste.

Cheers,
Roy

Jetjock,
Actually, I've been corresponding with the editor of that site for a day or so now. Great guy, very helpful.

And I've heard that particular spray doesn't work well.

And I've heard lots about the OptiCom. But I honestly was not trying to do anything illegal. You guys should see the vid. Its hilarious. Middle of the night and I make a rolling right turn at 6 mph when its obvious no one is coming. Ridiculous really.
But I digress.

Acutally, I think I may be out of it based on other reasons I won't go into here, but yeah.

And please, don't tease us. Let's hear the stories!!
