So I'm lookin at this 88 N/A with a non-factory sunroof. Now to me this just reeks of..... well... leaks. (haha) but Im wondering if any of you have had any aftermarket sunroofs in the past on any car and if you would recommend staying away from them or not. My gut tells me its just trouble, but I want some input from more experienced people.

I've got an aftermarket on mine.... my only issue: it's not big enough!!!

It really depends on the quality of the install and the condition of the seals. If the seals are dry or cracking, it's going to leak, if it's not leaking now, it's just a matter of time.

Is it a manual sunroof or electric?

Its a powered one appearantly. But this car just seems to be sketchy. It was sold at an auction to the dealer that owns it now, and it was serviced 3 times in 6 months according to carfax prior to this dealer so its just lookin bad, but its 2 miles from my house, so im test drivin it anyways

It's not uncommon for dealers to pickup used cars from auctions... actually that accounts for about 75% of most dealers' used inventory.

As for the service thing, carfax logs maintenance? I never knew that and I wouldn't trust it's accuracy.

Have you owned a MKIII before? If not dig through here for some of the common trouble signs to look for. If after looking at the car you decide you want it but want to be sure it's sound either take it to a trusted mechanic or hit up one of us local members... someone might be able to meet you there and lend a hand.

Never owned one, but ive been doing some research. Id say around 10-20 hours of solid research, i like to know exactly what im gettin into. As for the mechanic i dont have one i know, but holy shit if one of you guys was willing to give it a final check, i'd be truly grateful. I doubt I'll be that serious about this one, but ill see wednesday. Shit, you guys are really helpful and generous. Im amazed. Thanks man.

Is it an ASC sunroof? I have one that was installed by the dealership on my '88 when it was new and still functions flawlessly with no leaks.

So i just drove the 88 N/A ive been lookin at and boy does she shine. Painted earlier this summer with the original METALLIC red color. It looked old in the pics but shit, it looked good in person.

BUT... the thing was not in its prime on the INTERIOR. Climate control as always on these was peeling its stickers, the center console functions(ie, lumbar) were functioning but not good to look at. As a whole it was fine, but nothing special.

The ENGINE...
Looked great except it definately needs a new valve cover gasket, but the guys putting that in soon (hes already bought it). New clutch, it felt tight, really good. :biglaugh:

SO MY CONCERNS....
This thing had hardly any pickup. It was not slow, but it wasnt anything special. Im ok with that, as long as nothings wrong with the engine. I can give it a good tune up.

And how much does all that little interior stuff run? anyone have any similar issues replacing little things on the inside?
