$1500 is my budget right now, if I knew how to build one I would, but I honestly don't trust myself to buy the right parts since the AR-10 line is all kinds of different parts that don't work together, most of which seem brand specific. So SM gun gurus lend me a hand!

So I'm picking this up tomorrow for $1400

Premium DMPS .308 with 24" Bull Barrel. Extras include:
Full quad rail with low profile covers
Magpul PRS Stock
ERGO Tactical Grip
2 Magazines

He wanted $1800 for it, but I offered him $1400 for everything minus, glass, bipod and mono pod.

Its a year old with less than 200 rounds through it.

What do you need it for?

What guns minus ones you hunt with and EDC with do you need for? Aren't all the guns minus hunting/protection for fun?

I've got my hunting and EDC's...everything else is fun on the bunch.

There are more useful intermediate cartridges. The longe range rounds (170ish OTM) are effective out at 500-700 meters no doubt, but are you really going to be shooting people there? I was just wondering about his thought process on it.

And the answer is still entertainment.

Eh, I had a Barrett 98 Bravo chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum for a while. My answer would have been the same; "Entertainment". The problem with this particular form of entertainment east of the Mississippi was finding a place to shoot it that had long enough ranges. Not to mention the price of ammo. I dropped down to a .308 and I've been happy ever since. If I ever get moved up into Montana or Wyoming I'll probably pick up another .338. The .308 is a decent cartridge and is still fun to shoot at "reasonable" ranges.

Probably a dumb question, but is there really any difference these days between AR-10's and AR-15's? Since you can get damn near any round imaginable in an AR-15 now...

Yep, ammo is very cheap for this size of round. Found some wolf .308 steel case for $8 for 20 rounds. Probably going to pick up a few boxes to get this thing sited in.

6.8 I think is the largest you can get the AR-15 in. The AR-10 lower and upper only fit on AR-10 upper/lower combos. As the magwell is huge vs. the AR-15

AR-10 is chambered in. 308. AR-15 is chambered in 5.56 NATO or .223. Pretty much the entire gun is different.

6.8 is the largest I know of.
