I was talking to my brother the other day about the many repairs I need to do on my 90t, and at some point in the conversation I said, "well, the car is 15 years old". Then my brother said something that got me thinking, he said, "just think, 5 more years and you can get historic tags for it". Can you imagine seeing an 86t going down the road with historic tags? I practically have grown up driving supras and its just hard for me to look at them as 'classics' maybe its just me, just seems a little wierd. Talk about making you feel old.... Just thought I'd share that, sorry if it bored the shit out of you.

This seems to come up weekly hahaha. I have collector's registration on mine, 3k miles a year. Really is nice not having to worry about sound/emissions/etc. when cruising down the road.

I guess if you got caught daily driving it, i.e. got a speeding ticket or something, and didn't have a good story, your insurance company would be notified and they might pull it. That's less about the mileage, and more about how the vehicle is being used though. I'm pretty sure when you get collector's insurance it's more or less supposed to be a weekend driver, and/or car event type traveling. Is that how yours works jbsupra89t?

Yes and no. My insurance company as it stands now is insuring it as a pleasure vehicle (as well as a much higher declared value). They wouldn't frown on a ticket anymore than if it were insured normally. The insurance I am SWITCHING to soon is a limited mileage type deal, but still just pleasure. Insured year round, etc. 3k mile limit, can't drive it to work (that's what my daily is for :) ), and it MUST be garaged (which works out for me too). The value of the car also goes up with them, and a bonus is that the payment per year will be through the basement for FULL coverage. They don't care one way or another if I just take the car out for a cruise or whatever, it's insured for the 3k miles per year. How do they take note of it in the case of an accident? They probably take when I submitted the information for the policy and check mileage at time of incident. There's a lot more to the insurance that I'm switching to, but if you wanna know just PM me I have a good bit of info on it.

My REGISTRATION however, is collector's registration through the state. 3k miles per year checked ONLY at a state inspection facility (no joe's corner garage). You're supposed to have insurance that states vehicle is a limited use pleasure vehicle, but they didn't check for me, or my friend with a Viper. Hit or miss I guess? I wasn't expecting them to overlook it for me when I went, but they did and it worked out very nicely. What I didn't make very clear is that my car is registered as a collector vehicle, but doesn't have SPECIFIC collector car insurance (*YET*). When all is said and done, the stipulations for both registration and insurance will nearly be the same (mileage limit, pleasure use, etc.) Any other questions just PM me, thanks!

Hope I worded that in a manner that's not too taxing on the mental dictionary...

yea 5 more years and blue book doesnt do the pricing on these cars anymore and they become antiques so our cars will actually be worth their condition not average sale price.

Exact figures haven't been established, as I need to send the company a COMPLETE list of any modifcations to the car (long...), as well as a few pictures of the outside. But it'll be insured for at least $15k, and should run me under 500 dollars a year for full coverage.

Thanks for the explanation, I figured that it was you were referring to. As far as the ticket was concerned, I meant that it would show when you were driving it and such. They might call into question a ticket recieved on a weekday in rushhour traffic in the morning or afternoon if you get what I am saying. I'm not sure they would necessarily go that far, but I was just saying that even if your odo didn't work you still might not want to drive it all the time. As per Empera's post.

my friend drove his 56 belair every day under collecter insurance and he got pulled over PLENTY all he had to say in the case of a ticket is that he was on his way or home from a car show or meet.

Exactly my point, I wasn't sure it was just that easy or how many times that would work, but apparently it is. Thanks Americanjebus for clarifying with an example. :bigthumb:
