So before you go back or exit it out from this just hear me out . I have used the search tab and found some good info just not really what I am looking for. I am ggetting parts together for 7mgte build. Looking to make 400-450rwhp. Fully rebuilt motor with stock parts and just getting the valves lapped and cut for the head along with comp cams valve springs, 57 trim ct26,550 injectors and lex amf. Now on to my question what is a good ring set for stock pistons? I was thinking oem was good but I have read to stay away from oem. So is oem okay for what I am looking to make or should I go with hastings, wiseco, je? Just need to know what would be best

You "might" find aftermarket in the correct thicknesses for the stock pistons but maybe not, don't know where or what you heard about OEM rings but there's nothing "wrong" with them quality wise, they're just thicker than aftermarket rings so prone to flutter in extreme high output engines.

I have heard the the info about oem rings on here and other supra forums. That's why I mentioned that so someone, like yourself, could set the record straight with the correct information so I could decide weather or not to keep the oem rings I got or go with a different set. So thanks.

I'll be completely honest I don't know much about these cars so I try to do my research but I read things like they can't handle much power than stock, they don't seat well, they aren't good for a engine that's been honed, they burn oil. That type of stuff. I don't how many times or exactly what post,I just remember reading it. So that's why I asked

Stock rings are fine, but 450 RWHP is nearing the upper limit of stock internals in general.

If I can get 350-400 to the wheels I'll be happy. I know 450 is kinda stretching but depending on funds,I'll take what I can get.

THe stock internals will hold plenty of power. TUNE. Proof of this you ask?...Sean's stock bottom 7M at over 700 rwhp. Now, stock internals that are twenty years old probably cannot handle that abuse but if you're replacing them with new "stock" pistons it should be fine.

Yeah everything in the block with be new oem except the crank. That is being polished. The head is just getting new valve springs and a valve job. Valve guides and seals already been replaced. It would be awesome to make that much power but maybe in a different build and my income increases or once I get deployed a few times.
