So I'm new to this forum, so I'll do my best to not shit it up!
I currently have an 86.5 and recently got a 1jz from an mk3 supra via Tigerjapan. To start, my opinion on tiger: They are very helpful with questions you might have with purchasing parts and whatnot from Japan through Canada. However! Once the package has been delivered, they no longer give a shit about you. You can only expect so much. I ordered a 1jz and R154 combo from them. They give you the option to purchase the ECU and/or wiring harness at purchase. Each costs $150.00 USD. I called and asked hey, since I have a wiring harness, should I even buy one? The rep told me since you're going to have to modify it anyway, don't worry about it. Sweet. About a week and a half later, the package arrived. I was in the hospital and was unable to sign for the delivery, but luckily I had a tennant here to sign. Unfortunately, whoever the shipper was, they were dicks to my poor tennant and said, "who's gonna sign for this hunk of shit?" I guess he had a bad day. But anyway, they sent me a wiring harness anyway! I wonder if I opted out of the ecu they would have sent me that too? They said on the site that it could have anywhere from 30-40 thousand miles on the motor. It looks pretty good, a bit of crud underneath the valve covers, but that's to be expected. Of course I broke both of the vent hoses. There's a lot of broken, cut wires and hardlines that I have to figure out what they are. I'm new at this but honestly, it's not that hard I'll figure it all out.
So here's a parts list of what I've purchased(so far driftmotion is where it's at):
pre 89 brackets
polyurethane square mounts
2jz throttle cable
2jz water pump
no name "bolt-on" intercooler kit with knockoff hks blowoff- gonna use the blowoff until funds tighten up- note: not bolt-on
lsd from 7m-gte
1jz coolant hoses
suspension for giggles:
H&R race springs
Bilsteing HD shocks
Apparently this is a more desirable setup than coilovers. Who knows? All I know is I really enjoy the handling and ride comfortability. Wheel clearance is an issue with the MK4 turbo wheels- going to go with a 40 profile tire opposed to a 45.
My plan is to go without AC and without power steering for simplicity's sake. All I need now is some honest-to-god how-to on how to: 1. Lengthen and make my wiring harness work with my 86.5 NA supra body and 2. how to adapt the fuel lines.
Since I am not really experienced in wiring, I'd like to hear from someone who has done this exact swap. I know the older mk3 isn't as popular for a 1jz swap, but the car is way to clean to pass up for a busted 89. Pictures coming soon, I swear! So hook me up with some input folks! Also I have a 7m-ge and W-58(literally a solid as fuck trans) that I'm willing to part out. I'm in MD.
