The car is an 87 auto turbo supra with about 225,xxxkm on it.
Replaced and rewired the back knock sensor but still pulling code 52. Now I know this will make the car run rich and retard timing, but the car will not start now. When I first started the car it ran smooth idled smooth drove it around fine, left it idling for 30mins to see if anything changes. From intial start up exhaust was smokey but cleared up after it warmed up.
Turned it off and came back 15 mins later and it started up fine but rough idled, I'd try to give it some gas but it stayed around 500rpm. Put her in gear and it still running rough I'd put the gas to the floor and nothing. Then it started to stall on me,haven't been able to get her to start since. I looked up the KS write up and will be re-wiring the knock sensors. Question is would bad KS or shorts in the wire prevent start up? Anything else I should look into or test?
Thanks
-Paulo

Faulty knock sensors/wiring will not prevent the car from starting/idling/driving. When the code is present, you will experience a sluggish vehicle overall, perhaps a bit worse fuel mileage, but nothing that will keep the car from otherwise normal operation.

that's what I was afraid of...Guess I'll try to clear up wiring issues first then see where I'm at, thanks.

Is 52 the only code you have?

52 was the only code I pulled off but that was while it was still able to start up/run I'll check if there are any others when i get off work.

now I wasn't able to pull any codes batteries dead so im just gonna start with the KS connectors. The part # I got off the SOGI write up is 82219-89103 and I called my local toyota for the part and they're telling me thats the KS connector for a 92-94 4runner, are they the same?

Your dealer is correct. You only need the green half of the connector you get. ;)

You need two of them.

Thanks, my dealer looked it up and told me the KS for the 4runner is different from the supra, just making sure. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow to order. Now when the previous owner hacked up the wiring for the KS he only left about 2-4cms from the ecu plug to work with anyway I could pull both pins from the harness plug and use the one that comes with the KS connectors I'm getting or are they completely different?
Thanks for the info Shaeff, you seem to be in a lot of the KS/code 52 threads I've looked up.

Think I may have found my starting problem.
While waiting for the new KS connectors from Toyota I decided to pull one of the plugs just to get an idea of their condition and to my surprise the plug was covered in a liquid I figured I either flooded the engine trying to start it all those times so I started pulling everything off to get at the rest of the plugs. While removing the PCV hose leading into the intake I that it had been blocked off by the previous owner and #2,3 and 6 plugs were all also covered in a liquid. No PCV vacuum allowed oil/water to collect in the valley and foul the plugs?

More likely that your cam cover gaskets are leaking. However, get that PCV fixed, as if it's blocked off, that can cause oil seals to leak.

Definitely added to the to due list. Didn't get much time last weekend to get much work in on the supra, will update when I get a chance.

Albera, Too Far North
I used monster cable coax, 75ohm/ft IIRC. Found it at The Source way up north, you shouldn't have a problem. Depending on where you live and when you drive your car, a block heater aint a bad idea IMO.

EDIT: DOH!!! Your from van haha, The Source, A.K.A Radio Shack can hook you up. Below 0, I would use the block heater for good measure, looks new(clean) too.

So a bit of an update on this, I recieved the new valve cover gaskets, screws, rubber washers, ngk plugs and wires and went to work on the car. Had to re-tap a few of the holes because the threads were stripped (maybe cause of leaking lol) and got it all back together. Now I went to connect the KS and the new one I ordered from toyota looked a bit different then the original I had in the front. It was silver and a bit longer and when I went to put the connector in the starter was in the way...

Did I get a +88 or +89 (I can't remember when it was changed) KS? And will I still have enough clearance from the started if I drop it put the connector in then bolt it back up? I'm also ordering a new oil return line/pcv hose as I tried to use a regular rubber hose and it'd just get pinched off because of the bend/alternator. I also needed a new ISC hose that comes right off the I'm assuming the sensor but the guys at toyota have no idea what I'm talking about, anyother names that hose goes by or even the part #? I'll check the tsrm parts # online later.
But it's pretty much all back together now just a few more parts to go.
