Man, its the dishonest ones who make the rest look bad. I can't afford for them to put the wrong parts in. Me and my wife have a job at walmart and a car payment for an 04 staurn ion, under 25 so insurance is high on it plus i have a house payment. If you have a wife you know what i mean when you can't afford to have to do things twice.

I've blown my first, and im not sure if i should do it myself or spend more money to get it done by somebody who could care less about me or my car. Im sure they care for my money though! Im not saying all shops are like that but from the sound of it most people whom take their cars in for repairs find problems later.

I did mine my self with a composite HG and I also replaced pistons w/rings, water pump, timing belt, oil pump, clutch, ARP Head Studs, thrust washers, rod bearings, all new gaskets and seals, plugs and wires, and everything else aka oil, coolant, ps fluid, sh1t loads of brake cleaner, etc...

All that was about a little less than $1000.
Most of the parts were under $750

I also cleaned the everything myself. No shop did any of my work. It was just me and my buddy.

I have driven 1000 miles since the rebuild.
After the first 500 for break in period. I proceeded to test my work and beat the sh1t out of it :evil2:!!!

I need new tires now but my car has no leaks and runs great. I red lined the sh1t out of it doing some doughnuts...

If I cant drive my cars hard and not worry about it, then i am either driving the wrong car or something is wrong with it...

I really don't trust another shop with my car.
If you want something done right, DO IT YOURSELF.

Good job on your dyno numbers. What if after installing the headgasket he got another bhg and had to redo it with an oem from lack of funds. But if he really did pay that much money for them to do a mhg and they didnt, Fuck that. Its shops like those you learn you learn from not to go back to. Sooner or later you find out the shop who just bullshit you and the shop that are lagit who stand by their work.

Thanks for the compliment on the dyno numbers. It just goes to show how much power you can get out of these without pushing them!

The idea about him putting in an OEM may be possible for a lot of folks; but, not for this guy. This guy was NOT a wrencher at all! The only toolbox he owned was a little hand carry one. It happened at the shop he took it to.

Not all shops are bad. I've wrenched at two here locally. One was legit.

The other one let me go for NOT wanting to do dishonest work. He has since gone out of business and is in jail for dealing cocaine and using the business as a front.

The only way I'd take something to a shop is if I was personally acquainted with the person working on my stuff. Someone I trusted. And finding that is tough...
