Not to mention a Way Too Tall of OD ratio for our engines.
First: 2.40:1
Second: 1.47:1
Third: 1.00:1
Overdrive: 0.67:1:aigo:

Good for a low RPM torque monster US pig-iron V8,
But not for a 3-liter.

Who uses over drive in a race? If cruising is what your concerned about it opens up the possibilities of a highway friendly 4.11 rear. :)Manual valve body, transbrake and an off the shelf converter are reason enough to me.

Plus they can be built damn near bulletproof. A buddy of mine has one behind an ls1 In a foxbody. It's a wet dream to anyone that can appreciate an automatic car.

From what I've herd they can be built stronger then any 700r4 derivative. Ofcourse maybe a 4l80 is an exception, but those are a little large for our tranny tunnels.

Another buddy of mine is tearing up Built 200r4s in his 600+hp grand national. He's giving the 200r4 one more chance before going AOD. If my tranny doesn't last I'll be following his costly footsteps.

5.29's fuck! Hey if it will work that's great and the discoverys are awesome. But I like a nice high overdrive. If I need to go faster in third I'll up the rev limiter ;)

I'm giving the Toyota trans one shot if it doesn't hold up I'll be AOD.

This is not a turbo car..........
Getting a NA with big cams to launch with an auto has been a chore, to say the least.
My 7M doesn't come on the pipe until 4500 or so, but I run it to 8500.
Seeing that big torque american V8s with autos were running deeper gears than me (4.88s),
I decided that I needed something deeper, and use more of the trans.
Have not tried the gears yet, I just got the rear end built.
With 4.56 gears, I was just getting into 3rd at the lights on the strip,
and just getting into 4th at the Texas Mile.
Looks like I can run quite a way through 3rd at the strip with this combo,
and get a better initial run at the mile.
I will be really pleased if I can get the car to actually need slicks at the strip.
The 5.29s should do it........

Broke a few driveline parts (7M 6-bolt crank to flexplate joint doesn't like 8500 rpm shifts),
but the engine is doing fine.

I did it even to an ATI flexplate.
So I doweled the crank, and solved the problem there.
It then moved to the torque converter bolts.........
You know, those odd-ball 9mm things that Toyota stuck us with.
So now I re-tap the converter to 10mm, and found some short ARP bolts (still had to shorten them).

While I'm chasing these gremlins, it accoured to me, that maybe my re-clocked ECU may be locking up the converter in the lower gears, and that is why I'm shocking everything.
So when this trans goes in, I am also going to put a switch in the OD signal wire, and see if the problem goes away.

I come from a land down under
I found some BMW grade 8 9mm bolts that I use.

Haven't had an issue even locking it up low down with 500+rwhp, then again I'm not racing or doing hard launches so that may be a factor for you.
