Howdy all, going to combine all my post from a non-supra forum.

Doing a bit of a rebuild of my supra and thought MK3 owners might like to see this. Any help or advice is appreciated. On with the combined posts!

____________________________________________________________

About 6 months ago I bought a 1987 supra with about 195k on the odo. It wasnt in the greatest condition body or interior wise but I always wanted one. I went underway (last one woo!) with the Navy and about a month prior I noticed the motor or something was smoking pretty badly.

The previous owner before hand told me he put in a used JDM motor and ran great well it did till after I noticed it smoking under hard aceleration or high load. I compression checked the motor and 4 out of 6 cylinders had lower than normal compression. Well as far as I could figure out the blowby was pushing oil out of the rear main seal and pushing through the pcv system causing more than normal oil in the intake.

I pulled the motor out and took it apart. The previous owner did not put a jdm motor but put a new head onto the old block.

I just picked up a used block with 90k and little hard driving.

Enjoy the pictures.

There is ALOT of wires on the harness.
sm_photo_missing.jpg

So I did alot of elecrical wiring again today.

Also got alot of new parts in.

New 2.5" alum intercooler kit.
Headgasket and oil union from the N/A supra.
Also I had some crome paint sitting around and well couldn't help myself.

The stock oil cooler system sucks balls. The stock system uses a presure based system and 3/8" line. I pieced together a temp based system with dual filter adapter and 1/2" lines and a better oil cooler. Toyota filter and trasko 1 micron filter will be used.

I should add that the stock oil filter is in the worse place posible.

Just for reference I wear a size 13 shoe.

Stripped all the old tape and plastic crap off and redid the tape and finished the plugs just about.

95% done on the harness, enjoy the pictures.

So today I pulled the stuff I had sitting in my mineral spirit bath and cleaned em up some more.

Broke the crank bolt loose to remove the crank pulley on my 90k motor. Couldn't get the crank pulley off no matter what I did. SST, crowbar and hammer would not work. I eventually got pissed off and flipped the motor upright and used my manstrength and litterally lifted the motor off the ground via the crank pulley. I belive that was around 300+ lbs. Needless to say the crankpully FLEW off the motor and the motor dropped back down onto some wood blocks. (motor is fine the blocks wernt so lucky)

I did finish up disasembling my old motor and bagged what I wanted to save. On a side note I could not even break the crank bolt loose untill I put a crowbar through the mostly disasembled block and jumping on my breaker bar and crowbar.

Nothing like your neighboor getting out of the car from work and hearing me come around the corner with a block in my arms chuffing like a train and saying "I"M A FUCKING MACHINE WOO WOO".

Sorry with taking my old motor apart and the oil, grease and antifreeze I did not want to get it all that crap on my phone, as there is a lack of pictures.

Took a picture of my trasko filter on the mount today.

7MGTE Piston and Rod, I cleaned them up as best I could.

Blowby much? I had a hell of a time removing the melted together rings and piston.

Just a reference between my 7MGTE and honda B16 pistons. (b16 threw a rod as you can see)

So I started to polish my lower T-Belt cover. To bad I ran out of my steal polishing bits for my dremel, and was only able to do about half of it. Got a little crazy with some more leftover crome spray paint and painted some engine mounts and a couple other mounts. Also removed a couple old gaskets off the motor.

So I have come to a bit of a stopping point. I got my final set of parts however I was missing a few parts I needed. However the guys at driftmotion were cool and are sending the parts they forgot to send tonight.

Installed the oil relocation block.

Will copper spray work as a sump gasket?

jdub;1200449 said:
No...it will not. The TSRM calls for FIPG or equivalent.

Using copper spray as a filler as the pan is not all the way smooth. Still going to be using a gasket and a little hi temp silicone around the bolt holes.

Like I said...the TSRM calls for FPIG or its equivalent (I use Permatex "The Right Stuff) and it does a fine job of taking care of imperfections in the pan sealing surfaces. A gasket is not spec'ed for the oil pan....they have a tendency to leak ;)
