How many of you use the "special" AN wrenches versus normal wrenches on reusable fittings? pros/cons? are they really necessary?

Anyone have issues with resuable fittings loosening up over time? thx

I have a set of the real ones. Made of a slightly softer aluminium than the fittings generally are, and hence they don't damage the finish...if appearance is important to you. They are also fairly short to keep you from getting enough leverage to overtorque as well. Nice, though not necessarily needed.

Just to add a little bit to that, they do have a wider face as well, again to stop from damaging the outside of the fitting.

might want to check out the new Al crescent wrenches out there....

I was going to get a set of snap on an wrenches. I decided not to when I saw it was 300 for the set. Then I saw the crescent wrench. I was going to get that and decided not to when I saw it was 200 dollars.

:)

Where would you recommend picking either the crescent wrench up, or a set of wrenches, dr. j?

thanks for the feedback

I saw the adjustable crescent wrenches at summitracing.com which were cheaper than the full set for every available AN size. I think they sell a pair of adjustables that covers up to -10 and -10 and up.

So if i stick to the up to -10 AN adjustable and never use anything larger (which I won't) I could buy just 1 and "do it right" as they say.... and considering the cost of reusable fittings and stainless line WTF right :)

okay 3 to 20 - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-900124&N=700+115&autoview=sku

NP :) It is AL correct? If so then yes you could save some cash. I just prefer to have a wrench so I can make my tool box look like I have something in it :biglaugh:

i'm aware of that...and i have 2 sets.but if you've ever assembled a lot of hose, you'll find that sometimes you need a non-std size wrench....hence the convenience of a crescent....

I must have missed something. I have assembled all of my AN fittings/braided lines myself and I actually did use a cresent wrench. For take them off and on , I would use a normal AN wrench :)

I've found it seems a number of fitting makers have a different idea of what hex size a single an size should have. There have been a couple (aeromotive -6 fittings on the regulator come to mind) where I've had to go back to a regular adjustible wrench because nothing from my AN set fit properly.

None of your fucking business
I have a set plus a cresent wrench. Wouldn't touch the fittings with anything else. If you going to spend the money for the fittings you should treat them good. It's amazing how fast they add up!
