I looking for some how to information on how to make stainless oil/ fuel lines. I attempted one this morning and it became very quickly aparent that I have no idea what I am doing. I butchered the fitting and stripped it out!!??
I would post a picture of how badly I butchered it but it just to embarassing.

Here is what I did:
threaded the hose up through the first set of threads, and stopped at the very bottom on the finer threads (second set). I then tried to thread the other half of the fitting on, but it was so hard (no it was not cross threaded) I thought, "well, maybe it need to be this tight." I now know that the threads are stripped.

Heres what I would like to know:
A step by step on how to put an end on a hose, including the best way to cut a hose.

Also:
Do I need to strip some of the SS off the hose to put the fitting on?

if you stripped the threads then you almost definetly had the fitting cross threaded.

believe it or not, i find the larger size fittings MUCH easier to assemble than say, -6AN fittings.

Fittings take a little patience to work out especially when you don't want to have any marks on them. Don't give up.

lube ;)

you need to lube the insertion portion of the fitting before putting on the hose with the collar on it.

What is it with you and lube :biglaugh:

Update! So gentelmen, it seems that round two was a sucess!!
Thank you to all who provided input!

Lube can not be under estimated.

Here is the finished product. I rounded a corner, but this is the end that will be connecting to the block so it won't be seen. I started using a slightly bigger wrench and covering it with tape, and that seems to work really well as far as keeping things from getting scratched.

A set of -AN wrenches would be a good investment, as well as the vice jaws. ;)
