ive heard that one of the main reasons for blowing a hg is the uneven expantion between block and head. so i'm curious, theoreticly, could you have a custom aluminum block cnc'd or forged? :dunno: would this help with the bhg's? it seems posible but expencive. i think it would withstand the heat, many cars have aluminum blocks.

sorry if this is the wrong board, please move it if needed.

Yes you can do that. The price alone for a one-off casting would be retarded to even start thinking about. Swap a lamborghinni v12 in and you'll have a better engine than an all aluminum I6 ahahaaa. It's been though of befoe too tho. The saturn S1 I believe it's called has a 4 cyl with iron block and aluminum head and it too has hg problems. It's just caused by the aluminum expanding/contracting more than the block. Plain and simple.
BTW go 1UZ or 3UZ if you want all aluminum toyota V8 power!

i love the i6 tho. what problems do the jz motors have? i might just have to go to the dark-side. :evil2:

talk to duane stephens and he will keep you on the path to 7M greatness lol.

the J engines arent really notorious for blowing head gaskets like the 7Ms, and the fact that they already have metal ones with adequate torque specs from the factory dont make it a prominent issue with those motors. as long as you know what you are doing you can get the right gasket and make it last on a 7M.

GM's bimetal quad-4 had a huge BHG problem as well. It would cost easily $10M to $100M to design/fab a new engine block. Much better off to put a BMW I-6 in if you want an aluminum block. IMHO

aluminum block?

hope you have bill gates money

anyway

as for the 7m

bad torque specs and nothing else. Replace HG with MHG and torque to correct figures and no more BHG.

<-- 200k mile engine with MHG before it died due to rod knock.

To expand on this once you start doubling, tripling a motors output there are going to be failures!

The big difference here is in how each group perceives this when it happens.

Mk4 guys are generally $$$ up and seem to take it in their stride and quietly repair any damage without airing it in public or making a big deal about it.

Mk3 guys are usually on a much tighter budget so a BHG is a big deal not to mention a lot of our members are younger so in their life this is an enormous event so gets publicised with my wailing and fanfare!

I've noticed a slight shift in the last few BHG threads where it's becoming a lot lighter and NOT something to slash your wrists over :)!

Any motor will fail if there is something wrong the trick is to identify it correct it and move on knowing it's no longer an issue if you've repaired it correctly!

perspective is everything. learn to control your perspective (near impossible) and you basically control the outcome of your life.

I've always been curious if there's a V12 that would fit in our engine bays. I know it'd be a pain though, you'd have to do lots of custom wiring and probably drivetrain stuff. That should be Lamarossa's next mod, a Ferrari V12!

1) Borrow lots and lots of money
2) Fly to Japan
3) Buy a Toyota Century
4) Pull motor and ship it back to the U.S.
5) Put back in a 1JZ or 2JZ and sell the thing
6) Fly back to the U.S. and install your new motor!
