Alternative Shims for 7M Engines

Thought i'd post this up for a definitive answer. Other people have searched high and low for valve shims that are cheaper than Toyota sell them for (€8.73 + 19.6% VAT here in France), and some might know that Ford Zetec engines from 1998 onwards use 25mm shim over bucket lifters. The shims are an EXACT FITMENT for our shim over bucket lifters.

So today, i ordered 11 shims from my local Ford dealer for the grand total of €25.26 including VAT @ 19.6%

They have some oddball sizes available, and i only ordered the outsize ones that i didn't have in the shim kit, but this should be an adequate start for you folks :)

Posted below are some of the "Finis" codes from Fords EPC. After some searching around it appears that the Zetec engine was never available in the USA with anything other than hydraulic lifters, but these part numbers will work for anyone within the EU.

*PART NUMBERS REMOVED FOR SAFETY REASONS* - Valve Shim, 3.00mm - €1.92 + VAT
*PART NUMBERS REMOVED FOR SAFETY REASONS* - Valve Shim, 3.09mm - €1.92 + VAT

Have found that Sudco & Goodson in the USA sell valve adjustment shims for classic motorbikes that fit as well:

Models you can get them for include the Honda CBR series 750/900/1000 from '79 to '83, All Triumph 3 & 4 Cylinder watercooled models & some Yamaha bikes (see the link for the model numbers).

Finally, you can use SHIMLESS BUCKETS from the 1SZ-FE. IJ has kindly provided the part numbers listed below:

13751-23030 = 5.12mm
13751-23040 = 5.14mm
13751-23050 = 5.16mm

13751-23100 = 5.26mm
13751-23110 = 5.28mm
13751-23120 = 5.30mm
13751-23130 = 5.32mm
13751-23140 = 5.34mm
13751-23150 = 5.36mm
13751-23160 = 5.38mm
13751-23170 = 5.40mm
13751-23180 = 5.42mm
13751-23190 = 5.44mm
13751-23200 = 5.46mm
13751-23210 = 5.48mm
13751-23220 = 5.50mm
13751-23230 = 5.52mm
13751-23240 = 5.54mm
13751-23250 = 5.56mm
13751-23260 = 5.58mm
13751-23270 = 5.60mm
13751-23280 = 5.62mm
13751-23290 = 5.64mm
13751-23300 = 5.66mm
13751-23310 = 5.68mm

If anyone knows of any other sorts of shims that fit our buckets, can they post in this thread, and i'll update the main post with the details.

Hope this helps guys :)

Ford numbers are no good here. I'm on the phone with our sister Ford dealer to get a part number to start with, but can't come up with anything... good for UK guys, but I dont think we can get them.... dang.

I initially got them by asking for valve shims for a 2000 Ford Mondeo 2.0 - which you got there as the Ford Contour - they went to solid lifters here in '98, so they *should* be the same there. Lemme know what you find.

We can get them cheaper here from Yamaha, it's the same system they used in one of their motorcycles from the same era. DamnifIcanremember exactly which bike, but I'll dig around a bit and see if I can find the model information again.

LOL- you've heard that? : )

They do, but they're price is $5.60 each. That's over $2.00 more expensive per shim than Cylinder head supply.
