Good points:

Bolts up to R154 bellhousing
Input shaft length 7.5" (R154 7.25")
Uses Chevrolet splined clutch disk and GM style THM 350 yoke
Upgraded version of Toyota trannies

Bad points:

Uses electronic speedometer
Gear ratio's not as good as the R154

Oh yeah, one other "good" thing. The bellhousing it comes with will allow it (or the R154) to be bolted up to the GM Vortec DOHC 2.8L I4, DOHC 3.5L I5 and DOHC 4.2L I6. Try out a turbo on THAT!

Horsepower: 275 hp @ 6000 rpm

Torque: 275 lb-ft @ 3600

Applications: Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Saab 9-7

Actually it would put less load on the engine, but they look like pretty decent ratios.

375.00 for a new trans sounds awful cheap though, wonder what the catch is.

It's a product of Aisin-Warner. It's an evolution of the original Toyota R series. There are a LOT of transmissions that will bolt to your bellhousing.

I know Aisin. I work for GM.

I just have not heard of a bolt on manual option for the Supra before. Then again, since the R-154 seems to be able to take so much power, maybe no one has looked for one that much.

and a sincere hmmmmmm from me as my trans has 170k(mi) on it and is beginning to piss me off........ but the elec speedo output is making me wonder...... anybody thought of making an aftermarket speedometer work with the supra cluster before? kind of like paddlenbike and jt2ma71's boost gauges.....

We never figured out for sure if it would work, but there was a bit of discussion about it. My big draw to the trans is the triple cone synchros.

We can't say if it will handle the power, that's where the discussion stopped: "someone try it and report back". Aisin doesn't rate them for max capability, they rate them for max application which, IIRC, is about 250 lb-ft. It's a good bet, since they have the triple-cone synchros in the same overall package, that the gears aren't as wide.

As for the the electronic speedo, it'd be worth looking at swapping on a R-series output shaft and tail housing. That way you could keep your stock driveshaft.

A quick call in Canada and we find that its $1784.78 locally. Umm a rebuild would be cheaper here. Sux could have been a great fix.

Or you could get one off ebay for $375. My synchros are hating me, may be time to take the plunge.

By the time I pay exchange & shipping & duty...I would be better to search with late model wreckers to see if I can find one. I do not have the money now to try this.
