When PVC is heated it does release chlorine... how much depends on how hot it's getting.

EDIT:

Whoops I see this has already been covered, for the most part. PVC does release Chlorine when merely heated, however the amounts are minimal. When burned though it's the most abundant byproduct. I'm pretty sure how it's fabricated effects how much is released at what temperature. I remember once working on a job site where "special" PVC was brought in mainly for use in hot water systems. Is this stuff chemically treated or is it actually comprised of something other than PVC and just called such by mistake?
