I don't think he'd be suitable for anything more than grunt work, to be honest. And I wasn't really talking about bringing in a draft for thousands of recruits, just one randomly selected asshat. I'd love to see what he thinks of the pay structure after another guy in his unit kills somebody trying to stab him in the neck with 16 inches of sharpened steel.

I'm astounded that people like that actually exist... and I'm not even from the USA! Hell, if I ran into that guy on the street, I'd smack him one. Or two. Maybe six.

The moment a society forgets this fact is the first step down a dark path. The men and women who volunteer to fight in the Armed Forces haven't forgotten this timeless rule, and are the reason there still is such a thing as "free speech".

Idealism like the chump in the OP comes from living a lifestyle far too pampered, and never seeing the true horrors that people will do to each other. I'm sure that attitudes would change quickly if unsensored news casts of wars filtered onto TV's across the globe.

We don't live in an ideal world. I'm sure that seeing a picture of a 6 year old girl raped and murdered by militant soldiers will change many people's minds. Will it upset people? No shit. Hearing about it doesn't compute nearly as quickly as actually seeing it. When they turn off the censors in the media, I think the mindset of nations will quickly change when they start to see what is really going on in the world.
