How important is this sensor? Any problems with performance if it is not plugged in?

This is the sensor on the 1jz Intake manifold next to the throttle pcv hose.

yes it is important.. why unplug it?

a map based ecu needs Manifold pressure and Air temp to figure out how much air is going into the engine... with no air temp the car would run like poop

Thanks, Tissimo . I did not unplug it on purpose. recently been noticing car was sluggish na dlike you said, POOP, a bit and breaking up at top and running a bit too rich. Checked everything and tightened all hoses. and still did not feel any change. Today I popped the hood and decided to give another look and found both wires broken off the plug itself :( I could hardly tell since the wire jacket was close to the plug and it looked okay.
I will be soldering it back tomorrow. Weird thing is, this did not throw any CEL. And I know my CEL works properly

I heard you need that sensor but here is the funny part.
You need it but it is positioned in a horrible spot and heat soaks and gives sucky ecu readings! it is more or less telling your ecu how hot the manifold & engine compartment is more then the actual air temp going into the engine and haves something to do with the jaggedness of the power band.

Best thing is to plug the hole off and move it right infront of the tb intake.

lol Moe, Kris told me that you might go 2jz and that he was going to pick up your old 1jz engine. Lucky bastards!! I'm waiting on Venus to get another 1jz clip as they are out of stock right now. I still need a place to do the swap, maybe in your driveway..... :naughty: :naughty: lol

That's good idea....

aboard the Argama
Bringing this back.

I had some repairs done on my harness recently. Upon reinstalling the harness, the two wires to the air temp sensor broke off. The car starts and idles fine but will not rev past 2000. The only code I pulled is air temp sensor code 24(obviously). Is this the cause of my revving problem? Or should I be troubleshooting my installation somewhere else?
