i have the filter going stright on to the afm.. around the 4 bolts..lol so theres a small gap around the filter and afm.. so some free flowing air is going in i think thats causeing the bad idle and the afm to go bad... BUT if i put an adapter on it so its sealed up the car idles better but cant boost more than 5psi cause it like hits small fuel cuts or somthing the car wont accel any more its really wierd.. so i need the air filter sealed up to the afm so it idles better but i cant or the car wont accel at all.. what to do??

i tried to put cloth around the opening of the afm once and it sputtered plenty. try resetting the ecu by pulling out the efi fuse for a whole minute then put it back in. it might take a few days before the ecu relearn and calibrate the new amount of air. i resetted my car 3 days ago and it finally drove right. chances are that your car will die out at every stop light. by the way if you cant boost 5psi. there is something else going on like vacuum or boost leak. stock boost is 6+psi.

............i took a look at your air filter. its cotton so stick your hands inside the filter and spread it out kinda like a ball that way u get more air without the cloth. it doesnt look good but i did this on my kn and it works good.

Is the honeycomb mesh still intact and straight on the afm?

How old is this filter element?
