I just bought a water temp gauge and was wondering where the best spot was to hook it up. Could i just pull out the stock sender and replace it? (Green plug) or is there another spot that would be better to do it from? jzx90 1j

I put mine behind the thermostat. It's a 7M though and there was a flat spot on the water neck that I drilled and tapped. I kept the stock sensor in place.

Here's a pic to give you an idea of the placement:

I plan on doing the same because I can't find a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" BSPT adapter to put it in the stock location.

Thanks, im thinking of either drilling like that or finding a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter somehow ( I take it that the stock sender is 1/4" bspt? ). Will the engine will run ok without that green sensor in place? what should i do with it if i replace it? can i just unplug its harness and let it hang? Also what is the other plug below it? ( white harness with 1 wire) can that be replaced? does anyone know what thread size that one is? maybe it will be easier to find..

If you do find one let me know! According to this thread it is 1/4 BSPT:

The engine will run OK without the sensor for the stock gauge, but it absolutely needs the ECU coolant temp sensor. I think you may have those two confused, the upper one w/ the green connector is the ECU temp sensor. The lower is for the gauge.
