Has anyone installed aftermarket rods on a 1jz? Any problems at all? Please let me know. I'm planning on doing it and need some feedback. Thanks

The stock rods are stout, so not many people have used aftermarket rods. No one on SM that I know of

I know they are stout, but after a ton a abuse they get fatigued and bend or worst, break.

Greddy/rods and pistons.....so far the only problem I had was the thrust washer.

Tomei makes one too. Tomei is made from a US manufacturer, I'm sure of the same for Greddy, so you pay for the name that they made the rod in the US, shipped it to Japan, then shipped back to the US, lol.

If you think about how strong they are stock, same design as a 2J, only shorter and thus should be more stout. I wouldn't be surprised to see the stock 1J rods make the same power as a 2J as often as a 2J. That's because they are, a lot don't post numbers. Some don't even post the right numbers ;)

I can send you pictures of them bent and broken. It was after 2 years with over 760hp to the wheels but, they break.

They still fatigue with hi hp for a while. I have one of my 1jz's with over 800 to the wheels.

Can you tell me if the greddy rod has the small hole on the side of the rod that comes from the top bearing in the big end? Do you remember the width of the greddy rod or have a spec sheet? That would really help. Thanks

Sorry Boss... I don't have any specs as I bought it as a short block from Japan as is. The crank was stock and the thrust washer was thicker by at least .010 and I had to have a machine shop made one for me.

Thanks a lot man. Do they have a spec sheet about the length width weight etc. As soon as you get the motor running let me know, because I heard some aftermarket rods are not made properly and you end up with rod bearing failure. That's what I heard. Please keep me posted. By the way, I like your nails. lol
