Aftermarket oil cooler options?

I'm doing my GE to GTE swap right now, and my seller did not include the oil cooler, so instead of spending cash on something that is semi-adequate, I'd like to just do an upgrade. Thus far I haven't found ANYTHING thats bolt on for the MKIII. What options are out there? Also, where exactly are the lines for the factory cooler ran from? At the filter?

i say for a lot of people, oil cooler is useless.

but buying an aftermarket one is pretty easy to make it fit. i know on my brothers rx7 they have quite a bit bigger oil cooler then the 7ms. might be a possible upgrade.

Really? Care to justify that statement?

A couple guys have experienced pressure drops across that cooler using the internal T-stat. If you've shimmed the oil pump for more pressure, it's less of a factor. Plus, the RX-7 cooler is a bear to fit ;)

Upgraded oiling system FTW. I'm running an 11x8 B&M cooler w/ a 180* thermostat, along with a filter relocation kit. :)

rx7 cooler sucks for fit. in front of the IC or behind it if yours isnt stock or the ac condenser is gone (still wont fit between the rad. support beams) And to the OP, there is no sense in upgrading the stock one unless going full flow

In that case, STFU about things you don't have a clue about. Especially in the Tech sections.
Excessive heat is the #1 reason oil breaks down.

I appreciate the compliment ;)

I have reasons to upgrade, #1 being that I don't have the stock cooler, and I refused to buy something thats nearly 20 years old and is OEM, plus I've heard they suck, bad. Any particular suggestions? I plan on running the German Castrol, and am going to shim my oil pump. I don't plan on doing any crazy road racing, so I don't need anything hardcore, just a moderate and cost effective upgrade.

you have no choice but to go full flow. im assuming you know the ge has no return port in pan and the filter head is completely different. stock cooler is designed as a bypass, it wont handle a full flow setup. Budget at LEAST $3-400 and expect another $1-200. I did it "cheap" initially and never even got the car started before i ripped most of it out to re do it correctly

Fun isn't exactly the term I was thinking. Where exactly are the lines for the factory cooler? I don't have GTE car laying at my disposal to look at for this, so I'm stuck from memory, and I don't honestly know where the lines are.

it isn't hard dont worry, i would start with a :) Nice Peace double check your thread pattern but i think its that one--very simple oil in and oil out(full flow):)

finding a place to mount you remote filter head/thermostat/cooler is the tricky part.
for the lins all i did was get bulk hose and fittings from my work and cut and run them at home, then go back and get them cleaned/pressed, any hose/hydraulic place will do this for you.

that link there gives you all you need.

i'm pretty proud of my setup so if you want some ideas i got a few pics

ohh and the factory cooler is a bracket off the block wich mounts the filter plus a line out to the cooler then dumps to that small plug on the side of you pan. i think it only cooled when oil pressure was at 40PSI.

ya dont even bother with stock lines, your straw at mcdonalds has more flow...

there is NOTHING on the stock setup that you want to reuse (except the filter head if you block off the bypass port)

I'd be very interested in some pics of your setup Dumo, any ideas help.

the pic where you see the filter thats of course the remote head/thermostat to the right. its mounted to the frame right behind the fog light you can see, in that little poicket there.

the cooler is mounted to my intercool(ETS) and i took out one of the horns and mounted it there too.

as for the lines just get a long peice and fittings and do one at a time(fit, cut, trim if needed,re-fit)avoid 90degreee fittings, use 2 45's if need be(i had to) and label it, run them all, take them all off, go get them pressed.MAKE SURE THEY CLEAN THEM BEFORE THERE PRESSED!! and put em back on.

nice and easy, no leaks;)
