Anyone on here installed an AEM EMS on their supra? I'm going to buy one and was just wondering if it's worth the $400 SP charges to install them or not.

Its plug and play, but no base map... The only tough thing for me so far is pinning the new sensors... But there's enough people who've done it to help ya pin them, well, help me pin them... I wouldnt pay someone $400...

It can be plug and play but more work then its worth.
AEM is plug and play with the the USDM 2JZGTE Supra. There is a field harness for it so if you have a 1JZGTE and install the 2JZGTE harness it is possible I dont know though if you keep the AFC set up or add a map line and deletes the AFC with the field harness ?

Is it $400 to just install the box or to install and tune it? Big difference between the two. If its tuning it thats a great deal. The install part is very easy on the AEM. All I did with mine was install an IAT (2 wires), a MAP (3 wires), and a wideband O2 (1 wire) connection.

lmao nice sig Emik.
^Thank you. I made that up at work like 2 weeks ago.

No it's $1000 for install and tune, or $400 for install and $600 for tune. It is plug and play and i'll be buying the iat and map sensors, and probably the wideband. I was just wondering if it would worth the $400 because i couldn't see paying that to run some wires.

1k isnt too bad for the install and tune, as long as the tune is a streetable tune. a full AEM tune can over 1k at certain places.

IMO, it would be worth it just because SP stands behind their work. I can't speak for their tuning though.

Are you saying that SP doesn't tune well? Cause if they don't do it well then i won't have them tune my car. Thanks for the input.

AEM is a piece of cake once you take a week to go through all the PDF files and figure out what your working with.

So you go from selling it and buying back your emanage to a "piece of cake" in 7 days, gixxer? :biglaugh:

it does get easier as you finally figure out what all the definitions mean in use. also the more you tune the more you will understand.
wiring it in wasnt that hard and takes about a day to do it. you will need some shielded wire to use for sensors and be sure to ground any sensor ground to a regulated aem ground. i used shielded microphone wire because it is small.

as long as your oem sensors are in good shape they will work fine. read and study the pin out for your year and determine the pin in the oem harness and install. figure out what you want in the aem white plug and install. not really hard if you plan it out. I also labeled all wires with a labeler printer.

Oops. I just read my post again and it does seem like I'm implying they don't know how to tune. What I was trying to say was I haven't heard if they're good or bad. They work primarily on MKIVs and since I don't read the MKIV forums, I don't know what the results are.

I would ask them for some details. If it's $600 for a tune that makes the car drive as smooth as stock on the street, that would be great. I've had SP work on my car and Larry and his crew have always been great.

For $400 it's just NOT worth my time doing an install.....

It all depends on your finances and available time.

usually people either have extra money or extra time. its rare to have both.

if i had to pay for one or the other, id much rather pay for the tuning.

The tune that SP put on a friend's mk3 wasn't really decent. lots of hacks to get it to work well enough to drive. This is coming from the owner of the car. he went back through it and had another shop help him with the tune.

I also know of other projects and things that SP did less than desirable job on. it's almost like he doesn't really care about the mk3 community. Cant' blame him really.. as most of the owners are cheap asses.

Dave: I just look at it in the way that the hours spent doing an install would net me far in excess of $400 if I was doing other things so it's really not worth my time.

No One here does installs that cheap ;)
