The C2DI still will not accept the signal direct from the AEM. I ordered an ignitor today to stick between the AEM and C2DI. I dont know why this is such an issue although it says on the EMS data sheed that an ignitor is requried. There really isnt anything anywhere that says "YOU CANNOT WIRE A C2DI DIRECTLY TO THE 30-1100 (Supra) EMS. IT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THE SIGNAL. YOU MUST USE AN IGNITOR BEFORE THE C2DI."

Kind of pisses me off but I guess I should have read more and more into the forums.... I guess I just figured that something like that would be in the instruction book or something.....

So I got the ignitor wired in today. That took awhile but it is done now. The inductive pickup on my timing light will not recognize the signal going into the coil. Im wondering if anybody has had similar experiences with their timing light?

I know that it is firing because when I take out the plug and ground it while it is plugged into the coil I get a very healthy spark. Additionally, the LED indicator on the c2di is flashing.

I think the next thing I will try is pulling the coil and installing a jumper wire. I tried out the timing light on my tercel and it works just fine. Maybe the signal after the coil will be strong enough.

paper clip? Im not quite sure that I understand how you are using the paper clip.

I got a jumper wire to set the timing with and the light works great when clipped over the jumper wire post-coil. Before the coil it doesnt work at all.

I come from a land down under
I just slid the paperclip wire under the coil boot so it was touching the terminal and sticking out from the boot a few mm then clipped the inductive pickup over the top of it.

Next drama was the MSD multiple sparks at low rpm made it a bit of a guess where the timing actually was.....

So I tried a jumper wire and it was intermittent at best for signal pickup on the light. I borrowed an el cheapo light that bridges the gap between coil and plug - 100% signal pickup.

Timing set.

Start successful. I cant believe that it actually runs. Holy shit.

In retrospect, I dont know if the modification that I did to the AEM to change the signal for the c2di worked or not - I just assumed that it didnt work because my timing light did not flash. It is quite possible that it was working. I had the injectors turned off while I was working it so I wouldnt have known if it was working. I just trusted the light.

DaveH and some others have removed the ignitor with success and modified the circuitboard of the AEM to directly trigger the CDI (dont know if they did it with the c2di) with a very simple mod that causes it to pull to ground. I think I posted the link for it earlier in this thread.
