advice on what kind of exhaust to get.

im looking to buy a exhaust system for my supra.
not sure what to go with.
its pretty stock for now.
only has intercooler hard pipe kit with ex. bov

Anything 3inch that eliminates the stock turbo elbow is the Anwser you will receive from most the rest is sound preferences

This. Getting rid of that stock turbo elbow is probably the most important step in getting a good exhaust on the car. 3" is plenty for the rest of the pipe unless you're aiming for a very high horsepower build.

ok by the turbo elbow, meaning a downpipe? and if i do that would i need new piping done the rest of the way?

just buy a bic downpipe. you can go with a divorced one or a recirculated one. the divorced one will be much louder as it lets the wastegate vent to the air.

I'd go with a divorced downpipe that get's recirculated back into the exhaust stream. The turbo will spool faster than with a bellmouth style downpipe, but will be quieter than an open dump. Open dump = cop magnet.

Divorced downpipe has a seprate pipe that is for the wastegate so when the wastegate opens, the turbulence from it doesn't create pressure direcly behind the turbo. You can have it either dump just below the vehicle or recirculate it back in to the main exhaust at the bottom of the pipe. I had an open divorced downpipe on my car and loved it, but it is VERY loud and definitely not for everyone. When the wastegate is open it's as close as you can get to the sound of N/A or supercharged running open header only on a turbo car.

There are also just full 3" downpipes that do not have this seperate pipe for the wastegate. These are much better than the stock elbow, but the turbo spool will be slower in comparison to the divorced pipe.

I ran a divorced downpipe and it was fine, but I had issues with boost spiking too high. I swapped out a bellmouth downpipe and it seems a bit better, as well as the bellmouth fit slightly better than the DDP. Both were Ebay specials, and based off of that I would suggest you run this one. Its cheaper than the DDP I ran and functions just fine. Combine it with the catback of your choice and BAM! You've got yourself a nice exhaust system!

You still want it divorced, you just want it recirculated, not dumping to atmosphere. If you went divorced you'd want one exactly like how toyotanos linked in the picture (only hopefully fitting better). The BIC ones are good for fitment, I have no idea on others though as that's all I've worked with. The issue you typically run in to is the metal tab that separates the waste gate from turbo exhaust doesn't fit properly. If it's too big you can't bolt it up flush and you end up with an exhaust leak there or if it's too small you get leakage past that tab and start to negate the advantages of the divorced downpipe (and if it dumps to atmposphere it's even louder under regular vacuum conditions).

I had a buddy who had a bellmouth downpipe, otherwise pretty much the same setup (57-trim, 3" cat delete) and there was a noticeable difference in turbo lag between the two. On the flip side, when getting deeper in to the power band mine would want to boost more than stock electronics/fuel would handle with no boost controller.

Get a divorced downpipe and you'll be fine... The one exhaust that I had on my MKIII and wasn't super loud was the HKS drager might want to go with one of those but they are a little pricey.

My raptor racing ddp is crazy good. Perfect fitment, perfect ceramic coating, flex section, great welds, top notch work for sure.

My advice would be avoid ebay specials and support a vendor here. George of raptor racing is great to real with, as is Aaron of driftmotion (although his ddp is generic chinese made).

Definitely get the ddp before a cat back. The elbow is a big enemy.

Another benefit of ddp is the gas will be slightly cooler by the time the two exhaust streams join again. The air cools (albeit minimally) and the gas needs less space as it moves through the system.

meh... blew past a state trooper doing 120+ WOT open dump... he just ran my plates and drove past LOL... it will piss some cops off if you're not careful, but you can boost easily and keep the wastegate from opening.

for cat-back i'd recomend rsr gt-2 or a tanabe exhaust if you can get one.... (tanabe should be quieter with a nice tone) also the magnaflow muffler on mine sounded REALLY good (had 2 different exhausts with magnaflow... one 3" and one 3.5")

There is someone that has a HKS Turbo exhaust in for sale section I believe. I have one of those. Its not loud if thats what you want. I on the other hand love it just for that reason. It sounds nearly stock with a bit of a rumble to it. Just right for me

If the Megan has a built in elbow it should be an improvement. Probably not as good as a BIC or Raptor Racing Divorced Downpipe, but still better than the stock elbow. Test pipes should ONLY be used on a dyno or at a track. Using it on the street shows you're inconsiderate and honestly, a bit dim-witted. Get a high-flow cat for ~$100. It will add virtually NO restriction and generally makes the exhaust note a little smoother.

Test pipes on the street should only be found on cheap beat up civics.
