Advice on Machine Work For Fully Built Motor??

A rule of thumb that was passed on to me by Reg Reimer was that if you can file your fingernail down on the surface, it's too rough.
My machine shop gave me a finish of 20-25 microns using good equipment with a CBN cutter, and I could file my nail down on that. I took a lapping disc to it and brought this down to the ~5 micron range. Something to consider.
