i got the 1g back and decided i was going to work on her a bit. so i ran a completly new intake all the way to the fog light hole. see pics below... my ? is i want to redo the pipe going into the throttle body with a 2.5 in pipe. what kind of pipe should i use? i was thinking of using aluminum and getting a single turbo setup to do away with the other pipe for the twins.just a thought i was going over in my head. what do you guys think? any ideas would be great.

Looks pretty good
I'd stick with that pipe going into the TB. It wouldn't look right without it unless you went with a single setup, but even still I don't know...
What I would do is pick up a medium sized FMIC off ebay, and a 2.5" universal pipe kit and run it all the way to that pipe, but don't replace it.

I've run with mine in a very close location, no problems, but I have the fog lamp and the lower splash shields in place all the time too. (Even have driven in some very heavy rain where there was 2 to 3" of rain on the road, and no problems...)

I suppose if you tried to drive across a flooded road, and submerged the filter, you could cause a problem for sure, but you have to suck water all the way through the turbo, FMIC and your IC pipes before the engine would see any of it.

I'm in the process of changing my setup, but here's how it used to look. The IC return going to the TB runs next to the 3" intake pipe. (The filter is a K&N under the right head lamp.)
New setup will be a larger 4" intake pipe, smashed down to fit the enlarged snorkle hole just right so I get max flow, and still have room to run both pipes there with the headlight clearance etc.

I think this is the best CAI setup for the MK3 possible.

yeah i thought about the water issue. im going to replace the splash gaurd and also put a bypass valve in the pipe so it wont suck up water.

The bypass valve is not a bad idea. (They only open up under extreme vac conditions right? Like if your filter is really dirty, or suddenly it's immersed in water, the valve's open and you suck unfiltered air, but it's air without any water in it unless your bypass is also under water...)

How much, and where are you thinking of buying the bypass? (I run the CAI, and it's either that, or the "outerwears" over the K&N to keep water out. (They also do a great job of keeping the larger stuff off your K&N like sand, large bugs, leaves and other crap that normally get's stuck to the filter, but really does not restrict flow much at all.)

i was thinking of using an AEM bypass it filters out the water and lets the air through. i can get on for 40 bucks because i have a dealer account. if not for that it would be like 85
