Is there a low refrigerant switch on these?

There is a low pressure switch on all cars.

And how can you tell if the system has been charged

By hooking up pressure gauges.

Thanks that's all I needed to know.

Really?

What do you mean put power to the compressor do you mean jump some wires that go to the relay.

I thought that was all you needed to know. Based on what time of the year it is, I am guessing you your pressures will show equal and ambient. It is normal that A/C dies come spring time.

Ya I'm either gunna fill it with the auto zone stuff or remove the ac idk yet I'm gunna wait till the first 80 degree day to find out. If I remove the ac I want to remove the condensor so u might wait untill I get my bigger radiator to remove the ac because I'm assuming u have to remove the rad to take the condensor out

I filled it up with r134a and it work fine. The old r12 low pressure check valve was leaking that's why there was absolutely no freon in it. I replaced it with the r134a one and no more leak.., it was sum what cold air comeing out once charged and I wasn't even moving just idling

I had the same problem, check the cig lighter fuse on the driver's kick panel fuse box. turns out the compressor relay is on the same circuit.

if you want an easy way to check if the freon is low without gauges, find the low pressure switch on one of the lines, unplug it, put a jumper across it and if the compressor clutch engages, then you know that your freon is low or the low pressure switch is bad. This will also show you that the clutch and relay are working also.

Did you vacuum out the system with a pump? R134a doesnt like air.
