What are the grooves in the block cut around the cylinders for?

he was telling me about the 400hp NA 7m he is building for his 4runner ,But you don’t care about that,

I would be highly interested to hear how he's gonna pull 400 horse out of an NA 7m,that is pretty much unheard of power for that motor,(I love my na,but even 300hp is supposed to be hard to pull off)

there cut into the block. cylinder lines are pressed in and then the deck is shaved flat. those are grooves cut into the block... im thinking o-ring, but... we just had a thread about that nothing be all too wonderful of an idea.

I thought it was impressive. 350-400hp all he really told me was 'a little higher compression' and a lot of head work, like the Titan's (I think it is Titan) with +1mm Ferrea Valves and a lot of port work.
*Edit: And reving it to 7600rpm
Plus he was talking about dropping his 2j in a Cressida. I will point him to SM and see if he will show his work.

Ill try. I dont know the year just that he has a 2j sitting around and it is to much motor (also to heavy) for his 4runner so he is dropping it in to cressida.

You and me both its been 8 months or so! The motor should be done by thursday then the old 7m get pulled and the new one installed.

I got the last parts I need (thanks for the fan shroud Dan G!) and tried to bring the car into the shop. Unfortunately I could not get a tow truck in time.

But I went down to sort some small things out and to see the final product.

Take a look at the HG in that last pic, it's defenatly not the 2.0mm HKS gasket I bought. Apparently the motor had been decked quite alot by the last owner, thanks Tim:icon_razz , this new copper HG is .080" thick to make up the difference and is the last one in north america :icon_cool or something like that.

Small update, the car is.. GONE!!

Yea, I brought it into the shop on saturday.
AMA really supprised me I had called at about 9am and was told there would be no less than a 4 hour wait. Twenty minutes later they were at my door. When I got there they said it was a gift from AMA and I didnt have to pay (even if it was only going to be $10-15).

It should be done before the end of January.
