I no longer have the ABS module and there for have no control over the ABS solenoids. I was just gonna leave them in there, but since Ive pulled everything else out of the car I might as well pull this bit of weight too. Its probably just easier to leave it in but I couldnt find info on the situation either way. For information purposes Im asking: leave the ABS in, or take it out and how?

you have to get non abs brake lines. but why would you want to remove it? its not full trac control and abs is only activated when you brake hard enough.

ABS is difficult to search for, so I'll just restate what I've always said.

- ABS steps in only when you need it
- ABS controls the back tires, front right, and front left independantly (I'd like to see you control them all independantly)
- In an emergency situation you will be able to brake AND steer

It's not like the modern systems that are getting in the way, it's a safety net and only steps in when it's really necessary.

Personally I'd keep it and make sure it's functioning correctly.

i left my abs in and i must say i don't like it much. If you hit a bump when on the brakes hard and it kicks in you need to remove your foot then reapply the brakes to continue stopping hard.

Interesting Q!

Haven't driven an ABS Mk3 so my "preference" is based on NOT having ABS at all and wanting it ;)

yeah the system sucks but it depends on how well you drive. The thing is it is a abs system from the 80's. Now i got to drive a viper on a roadrace course and you would use the abs to make aggresive turns. That setup would not allow you to lock the brakes (even when trying)

There is no sign of any Toyota wires, harness, or any of the ECUs of any sort left in my car. I have an EMS PRO running the engine, that will control traction. It has some options to it that would allow me daughter in ABS. This car wont be on the streets that often if at all so I just thought if its not too much trouble I would 86 it.

I did use the search button. Didnt see anything about removal. Cant read every thread that mentions ABS till I get to one that has useful info. Thats why when I post a question I title it as straight to the point as possible so that later people cant see this in a search.

Thanks for all of the good info.

I forgot exactly what the ABS ECU needs, if anything, from the main ECU. Traction control is something completely different...

FWIW you can buy 90% of the non-abs lines from Toyota still, and they're cheap. $30 was the most I paid for a line. They were all in the $17 - $30 range (depending upon discount of course)

But that holds true for threshold manual braking as well Q.

yeah true and now that i think of it, it may kick in many times and you don't even realize it, so in it stays.

I find that the Supra ABS is only sufficient in straight lines and light turns. Any hard turn and you are at disadvantage; you'd be better off pulling the handbrake and try to get your tail out and spin back on track again. :p
