Take it out? Then pull it's bulb out of the cluster.

A lot of people don't like ABS, Nosechunks. I can't stand it, personally.

ABS is anti-lock brake system , it's designed to save people lives . Alot of people removed it for racing . If it's daily street driving , I wouldn't remove it . it saved my life and that 65+ years old lady that ride electric scooter passed stop sign and crossed in front of my supra . if it's bad ABS replace it with a used one around $50.

prolly is not a daily driver :)

If its a track car it will be even more usefull :)

My point is that it doesnt do anything but help, and going around a track would make even more sence because you would get better use of it.

^ nah, for a track car, it's still not useful. i'm glad my car doesn't have it. upgrade to some real brakes, and i think you're even better off.

however, if someone made an abs setup that had TODAY's technology, i would look into that for street driving. but not 20yr old tech. :(

Sorry to stalk you, but I will see if I can find a couple of my customers that can answer your questions, about whether you want to ditch the ABS.

The short answer to your question is YES you can install a spindle from a non ABS vehicle. Yes you can ditch all the ABS on the chassis.

In my opinion you dont want to. If you can keep the ABS PLEASE DO. You will be shocked at how well the ABS works with my brakes. I can do everything I ever wanted to when I push my car to the limits and when Im in over my head.... Whew I hear the ABS doing its job and what an amazing job it does. I will see if I can go fish some of my customers out that can help describe the differences.

Dont get me wrong it does a great job without ABS but with ABS its wonderful.

If your commited to a non ABS chassis, for some other reason then my appoligies.

Just because you have abs doesnt mean you HAVE to use it. If you have great brakes, good tires and are a good driver you might not use the ABS or rely on it, but theres still no downside to having abs.

ABS is like car insurance, you dont buy/have it to use it, but if you need it youll be thankful you have it, whether you like it or not. And trust me, i HATE paying for insurance :D

You can do what you like with you abs, in not telling anyone what to do, but there is no good reason to remove abs.

Here's my story. When I bought car, ABS was broken (right front sensor)... I decided to restore ABS, bought sensor, installed... And went to test-drive it... It was raining a little, so wet road... ABS seemd to work okay.
When I was driving home, some stupid driver in MB turned from side road in my way... Well, not a big deal. I started to brake as I got used without ABS... But ABS engaged and car almost wasn't braking =( I'm 100% sure that I could brake without ABS without any problems...
As you see, ABS restore almost led to accident =( Of course, I removed ABS later (just to save some weight).

PS: idk, may be my ABS was not functioning as it should... And properly working ABS is a good thing, but mine was crap!

I think people take out ABS because they have been watching too much Initial D. I recall hearing many pro drivers say it's much better to have ABS than without it...

Ha imagine if you did not have ABS you would have been sliding and you might have slammed into the car or lost control. ABS kicks in only when there is a loss of traction while braking. I dont think there is any argument on that. I remember my 80 Camaro had some scary braking on wet roads, but I could manage it when it was dry out. But wet or not if I stomped on the brakes I would start sliding and again it was a nightmare in the rain ...... To hell with that I rather lose a foot of braking and keep full control of my car. I have been in similar situations with ABS and there is no comparison.

Keep the ABS unless you like that near death experience whenever you are forced to stop very quickly. The stock parts have enough power to lock up anytime you stomp on them.

exactly.

current ABS systems are light years better @ braking than ANYONE here is. however, the system in the MKIII leaves much to be desired. i've had more than one instance in more than one MKIII where it nearly killed me.

I was really wanting the ABS after Arz's comments in his brake thread. After reading these comments, I am glad I don't have it. I was shocked when I saw that my 92 NA doesn't have ABS. I thought it was standard on 91 and up. I guess it was standard on the turbos only.

yup, you're correct- it was std on turbo cars only....

and yes, be glad you don't have it.

though the delete isn't hard @ all since the USDM MKIII's ABS is only 3 channel. new brake lines, pull actuator, new bias valve. done!

Wouldn't bigger rotors and more piston calipers cause the tires to lock faster even with good tires? I was decent at manipulating my non abs camaro but sometimes i was not able to move my feet quick enough to pump the brake to keep from locking them up

My ABS system has never caused me a problem, and has, in fact done things that are frankly impossible without it.

Coming around a curve on the highway, and there's a jacknifed semi on the road. Hit the brakes. The right hand wheels are on sand, and the left hand wheels on good asphalt. I've hit that situation in a non-ABS car before, and the result is a nasty, skewed skid with little or no control. You can prevent that by braking to the limit of what the tires on sand can do, but you can't get more than that.

I've no doubt that the ABS saved my car that day. None at all. I could not have braked under control soon enough to keep from hitting that semi, and trying to brake harder would have sent the car sideways or off the road. Perhaps going into the situation knowing what's waiting for you, you can manage by centering the car elsewhere, but I couldn't SEE the sand, I only found that it was there when I hit the brakes.

The Juggernaut has my old
my black supra that I had did not have abs but my supra now does.. this one stops alot better and faster... I hit my brakes in this one and it stops without any problems.. where when I had to hit my brakes in a hurry in the black supra it would lock up and slide and id have to hurry up and let off and back on to regain control... IMO and my experience I would rather have the abs anyday over a non-abs... I guess it comes down to driver preference..
