He had NO crash bar..insurance won't be an issue

Iirc They will inspect for crash bars and such in an accident where someone dies

Hmm I wonder... Since they made this car without abs if it would really matter to them... Other than having abs lowers your insurance

I'm curious. What are your reasons for wanting to tamper with/downgrade such a critical system in first place? Especially when you don't appear to know what you're doing? A clean bay isn't a valid reason and hopefully you're not one of those morons who thinks he can out-brake/out-steer ABS so what is the reasoning?

And yes, you will be liable. After an injury accident where braking was a factor any attorney worthy of the name will eat you alive. Doesn't matter other cars came sans ABS. They weren't effed with by some kid who wasn't sure what he was doing. In fact If I were you I'd delete all your posts in this thread.

Not sure if that was directed at the op or me... Lol I wasn't arguing for or against the removal just personal curiosity on the ramifications ..... As for me I love my abs and will never even consider getting rid of it... However if it is as serious of an issue as it sounds to remove it then (without sending this thread into a faster downspin) what about ditching the airbag for a aftermarket steering wheel... Is that as big of a nono?

The lecturing condescending responses in this thread are ridiculous.

Insurance: When you are signing up just click the "no" box for abs. The car doesn't have it, regardless if from factory or removed. Unless you are the single original owner of the car, I defy anyone to prove that it wasn't removed before you bought it.

Braking: If the only way you know how to brake is to mat the pedal to the floor, close your eyes and hope for the best then keep your abs. I'm not saying your average Joe can out brake a good ABS system, but the difference between a decent driver and abs technology from 1988 is a lot less than is being made out in this thread. In snow, or cold and wet roads, abs is superior and you should be driving more carefully anyway.

Motivation: So what if someone wants a cleaner engine bay and you don't. I think lowered and stanced out cars are fucking stupid and stretched tires are even more dangerous, but if that's what people want to do (and a lot here do) then that's their choice. I'm not going to bitch at them just because I don't care for it.

Safety: If you're throwing rocks about this then I hope your tires have more than 4/32 of tread and are perfectly inflated and are not a lessor quality brand than oem. Same goes for your brake pads, wipers, headlights, and any other part on your car and you better not have ever exceeded the speed limit or you're putting other people in danger for absolutely no reason. Anyone can stand on their high horse and point fingers at someone about safety, that's why you have to get a rectal exam to get on a plane.

Do what you like with your car and your life, take chances and have fun, or be safe. It's up to you.
