a340e shift solenoid

I'm working on a friends 89 supra, it starts out in 3rd gear and throws trans code 62 (shift solenoid 1) and 64(lockup solenoid). Occasionally it works fine. Does this sound like a wiring issue or is it common for shift solenoids to go bad?

It isnt shift solenoids. It is either a fuse, wiring or something is unplugged.
