Hi, I hope this is the right place to put this, but I am wondering I have recently purchased a supra, it appears to be completely stock. However, the man I bought it from claims that there is a shift kit in it, I have also heard of it being called brackets. I am new to this, and cannot come up with any info on it. I have used the search tool and looked over the forum and cannot seem to find anything. Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing, and how effective/reliable it is? Even a link to a write up would be excellent. Thank you,

The only thing that i can think of that he would mean by that is either shimming the actuators in the valve bodies, or locking the detent cable in place. Having the button shift would be a obvious mod.

Shimming the actuators mod is where you place a shim inside each of the actuators in the valve body of the transmission to take up some of the extra space for quicker shifts. The reason for this is because each valve has to fill up with fluid in order to go to the next gear so by taking some of that space away you decrease the shift time. Most people only shim gear 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.

Locking the dentent cable is the wrong way to try to "mod" your transmission, by doing this you keep the pump running at full speed at all times and there is no need for it. (its the cable on your throttle body that goes to the tranny)

Other than the button shift there is no "shift kit" on the market

Thank you, it appears to be that he has shimmed the actuators. what you listed as results of the mod, and in what gears it does this is right on par with what you are stating. I appreciate such help. It also appears to give it a much harder shift that normal. Is this correct or is this a tell tale sign of a bad transmision. However, there is no usual signs of slippage or mess ups at all. it shifts quickly, and powerfully almost as if lurching forward and has no problems doing so. Would this also be a result from shimming the actuautors? Once again thank you for your time:naughty:

Yes, no commercial "shift kit" exist. Mods to the valve body would be on my to do list also. I consider the valve body to be more important than the acumulators.

Yes, that's exactly what it will do when the actuators have been shimmed.

Wow, thanks for all of your help everybody, I am really enjoying this forum and having so much information available, it really helps. I am soon to be replacing the head gasket on my supra with a metal one, and will definitely use this valuable research. it has already helped me alot with both looking for a car, and now fixing her up :)

There is a modified valve body that you can buy from a website, although i dont rember what site it is. It's really expensive though...:aigo:

Is there an instruction sheet on modding the valve body? or do you have to buy a modified one?

I'm not sure, but I think my trans might be shimmed as well. I've never driven/ridden in an auto mk3 other than my own so I'm not sure how the trans is supposed to shift. It's a decently smooth shift when I accelerate slowly, at about half throttle w/o O/D off it'll shift, accelerate another 2000 rpm or so then shift, and these shifts are really noticeable. Then under WOT whether O/D on or off and ECT on normal or power, the car seems to pull forward as it shifts (I'm not sure if that's the right way to describe it, but that's the way it seems to me). I can try to record it the next time I'm driving if it'll help

To rich or ITP?

I wasn't thinking of Rich. But it seems like he said he did his own trans work. I don't suggest it. Unless you have sat through classes on how diagnose, tear down, and rebuild a planetary.

i have a shift kitted a 340e tranny.Just get a kit from M V Automatics1 Stirling Rd, Blackwood, SA 5051 p: (08) 8370 0430
The unfortunate thing is hes in australia but the kit is fantastic, my auto split second shifts and holds up very well. This particular mob also do many stages to the a340e tranny buildups and have a very good rep.I know of a guy that was running just under 1000hp through a MV automatics built auto a340 and wasnt having any problems. Its up to whatever youll pay:evil2:

hmm I am not sure what may be the cause of this, or if they are interrelated but I am wondering if maybe something additional was done to my transmission. I am guessing *note the guessing part* that this may be a result of locking the kick down line like in suprahero's link but my transmission seems to even have instant shifts in reverse. I am a noob to both the supra community and even more so to transmissions, so please bear with me. I am almost positive that this is a mod rather than failing tranny because at WOT with a stock 7mgte I get wheel chirp. If anyone knows what would cause a hard shift into reverse as well it is much appreciated. Also it seems that there is a constant pressure, like when shifting into park. it will move (shift forward until the transmission lock point). (the end of the play in the park gear) wow hard to describe:aigo:
