I have a 89 turbo with a freshly rebuilt auto trans. During the build we did a few mods to help insure durability. Added an extra clutch, shimmed accumulators, added remote cooler, and raised line pressure.
How much rwhp and torque is this transmisson able to take while on the dyno w/o damage?

Ran mine for a couple of years now around the 550rwhp mark with no issues.

A good cooler or 3 is required.

I have my second cooler after the radiator cooler. I'm thinking after I get my Maft pro dialed in and with the supporting mods I will be about 450rwhp

When I talked to the guys who made my shift kit, they reckon that with it and one cooler theyre good for ~350rwhp, but since yours is a bit more upgraded I reckon you'd be right with higher.

But as people have already said... no-one knows for sure...

Having mine built at the moment. They speculate it should hold the 500 I'm planning.

They asked me if I wanted to have a custom billit planetary set made to make it even stronger but I said no. I havnt seen many people break hard parts in the transmission often so I feel getting the clutches to hold is a bigger issue then weak components.

Damn i guess im getting close need to upgrade :evil2:

Ok how much torque can the R-154 handle.
Really depends on a few variables ie: General condition of the trans, but I'd say one properly assembled will be far in excess of any power you ever make ;)
(Not being an asshole but 500rwhp isn't "cheap/easy" to get consistantly from a 7M so you should be safe)

how does one go about running this 'shift cut' you mention?
The PCS Controller sends a shift signal to the MoTeC, the MoTeC say's hey we're shifting and cuts ignition to random cylinders and saves the Trans.

Think of it from the Trans PoV, you load the turbo make xxx power then it shifts, this allows the turbo to keep spooling and making power but the Trans is slipping the clutches as it applies the next gear, doesn't take too long doing this to kill the clutches not to mention any shock loads.

Most of the Domestic guys here turn off shift cut in the commodores so they can chip the tires on shifts then can't understand why they keep flushing auto's ;)

Thanks O wise one, for the explanation :D

Meh, Motec stuff is too complex for me... I'll just keep my auto til it dies then get it rebuilt :D

Hey Ian i just realized the 8860 has a ignition shift cut input. Makes me wonder....

Something i might experiment with later on, i think the issue would be getting a signal from a tranny controller. Do you recall if the Supra Stick has an output for that?

Nah there's no real easy way to do it as the SSv4 uses the stock shift logic to control the trans.
