It's a heat exchanger. Common sense says not to put the heat exchanger over the HOTTEST PART OF THE CAR. The stock setup has pipes that run over it, with a much much MUCH smaller surface area and the heat exchanger is out in front where it's cool.

It's going to heat soak badly in that position...

its not that its mounted next to the hottest part of the engine compartment
the original pipes go right above both the turbo and exhaust

so what your saying is that any setup, stock or aftermarket, would be inefficient
therefore, any setup that removes heat from the equation should be more efficient than any other setup unlike it

Please tell me you're not serious...

The stock IC pipes are RUBBER, and as such, won't absorb nearly as much heat as your giant metal a2w setup sitting directly above the turbo. You go do a few 4th gear to redline runs and tell me your a2w setup is efficient and not hot to the touch. :nono:

Don't get me wrong, the a2w setup is cool as hell, but in that location, it's hot as hell. No ifs ands or buts. Sorry man, bad location.

so far ive ran the engine for ten minute intervals from cold starts

He's made a fundamental mistake and is now trying to justify NOT changing it so it will be effective.......

IJ-But Ian,surely running the engine for a few ten minute runs makes him more knowledgeable about thermodynamics than your hundreds of hours of research/testing.
Getsome-Seriously ,running the car for ten minutes isn't really gonna make the intercooler HOT anyways.trying to justify your theory on how it's more efficient than stock doesn't make it so.Theory doesn't = real life.

Ill will take your experience to heart. However, I also am someone who likes to experiment. Yes its mounted in the hottest place in the car. If i do it right it might work. If it doesnt then i'll mount it somewhere else perhaps. There arent many places you can mount an a2w intercooler in the supra, unless its small enough.

how large is your intercooler btw
just curious. it looks like it is 5 inches in diameter?

Theory stems from real life. Thats why we create theory, so we can predict real life situations similar to the original.

You could always make the AWI part of your inlet manifold. Which plants it on the cooler temperate climatic situations and get more horses.

But if you think it will be owesome how about you post some results of tempereture vs some 4th gear runs.

So your theory was to predict a system that was less efficient than stock(I guess that's "similar to the original")Probably the reason NOBODY else put it there is because, logically, that theory is not sound.

From a safety stand point those jack stands scare me....

Back on topic.

The only way for you to make that work for you in that location would be to run one hell of a radiator for the water. And potentially run something more like a water/alcohol mix. For what it is worth just move the damn thing somewhere else.

I come from a land down under
6" Diameter (I missed it badly today the A2A heatsoaks like a bitch and affects the tune in traffic the W2A never did this)

Add a coil of copper line to it and it might make a good still ;)

FM: In 30+ years I've never had a car fall off them so I don't really see the concern ;)
