they let me sit in my truck and told me where to rev it to and hold it there, relax man. they don't drive the car. they stick a thermoeter if you will for lack of proper termiology, up your poop shoot. Then they plug some shit under your hood, checking mainly your egr valve, from my personal experience.

Depends on the state rules, man. In CA, they have your car on dyno with stuff connected to your OBEDII port and all kinds of crap, they drive the car at different speeds on the dyno and measure everything. You can prolly beg them to let you, but don't count on it.

yes i do understand that they arent actually driving the car but what happins when they step on the gas just a little too hard and oops up over the rollers and into the fence not ten feet in front of them.

It totally depends on the state and the kind of test administered.

Btw, let's hope the car has better emissions than you do...
lol you guys are funny and i mean that im not being sarcastice i cant wait to get my supra together and come out to a meet. btw i sounded piss in the first post but i was just refurring to the fact that most of the workers there are indeed jack asses. its not like my vw has gobs of power it a stock supercharger with 150hp.but i guess thats too much for some lol

Alberta FTW!!!!

No emissions test to speak of. Therefore no cats. But from what I remember in BC they do "drive" the car.
But here:
1982 and newer gasoline vehicles under 8501 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) with two-wheel or part-time four wheel drive.
These vehicles will receive an Acceleration Simulation Mode (ASM) test. The vehicle is tested on a dynamometer. All front wheel drive vehicles will be operated by Inspection personnel. Motorists may operate rear wheel drive vehicles on the dynamometer. These vehicles also receive a gas cap test to verify that the gas cap seal is functional.

this is a part from the website for washington emissions testing.

so it seems you can drive it. Have fun.

BTW here is the website.

Hate to sound stupid, but I don't know WHAT THE HELL you guys are talking about with getting out and rollers (dyno?) and stuff...

Then again, I'm THANKFUL I don't know what you guys are talking about. I love Indiana. :icon_surp

I Grew up in Michigan. I believe in Michigan the need for emissions testing isnt required like it is in western states because it rains and its cold and michigan has crappy enough weather to blow out any real smog that collects. I thought that the detroit area required you to do some kind of emissions testing. Or maybe they just have better lobbiests to keep the US auto makers happy in their home state.

I live in AZ now and in the Phoenix area Maricopa county we are required to test every 2 years on cars less than 12 years old and every year after that up until 1969 model year vehicles. 1974 and newer they require you to perform an IM 240 test where they simulate a street drive where they load the vehicle at several different RPM ranges. Yes most do require you so get out of your vehicle but they will usually let you sit in the passenger seat. In my 240Z they only tested it at idle and that was a no brainer, because the 240Z never even came with a catalitic converter or an EGR system or EFI. I love my old car.

If you have a 500 RWHP turboed vehicle the turbo Lag will be sufficent enough for them to keep from launching off of the rollers. If its not ask them to strap it down or wait until the vehicle in front of you is completely out of the bay. That way when the dude launches it off of the rollers you can ask him again "If you can drive your vehicle"

If you keep your cool and treat them with respect they will usually respond (some of them might anyways).

Let us know what happens.
