I am new to the Supra... My brothers always talk about Honda, so I wanted something different.

The perfect opportunity came along when I found a '90 hardtop, but it was n/a and A/T. Oh well I can deal with that, but the car I found had bad cam seals, which soaked the timing belt, which started coming apart. Not a problem.

I guess it had set for about 6 months after the belt broke until I got it. After putting new seals and belt on, it sounds pretty healthy and runs smooth, but when you put it into drive, it acts like it is launching in 2nd or 3rd gear. It is a complete sled.

I flushed the trans, to no avail.

I also talked to the previous owner and she had used it as a daily driver, without a problem.

ANY IDEAS ??? Please???

If you do go 5spd I would look for an R154. Thats the 5speed tranny put into the Turbo cars. So if you ever put a 7M-GTE in your car. Your all set with a tranny! You would need to get a R154 driveshaft and the manual tranny ECU as well.

The stator is free wheeling??? I am mechanically inclined, but I know nothing of transmissions. Would this be because the car set for so long? I've only driven it a 1/2 mile since then, should I drive it more?

Thank you for any info.

No the trans fluid wasn't too dark, probably average and it didn't smell burnt. I tried flushing but it didn't change anything.

Also, if you start in L, it does not make a difference.
