A lot of guys I notice have thought about or have thought of doing the 1UZ-FE swap, and a few have twin turbocharged them. Which seems very cool for people who wanna be different or have the instatorque of a V8 engine. The downsides to a 1UZ-FE are the fairly low displacement compared with other V8's and the lack of major aftermarket support.

So I thought what if someone swapped in a GM LS1 or even the newer LS2 v8 into a n mk3? This swap is very common in the RX7 community and has gained some notorioty and would be better possibly than a 1UZ-FE because it has all the advantages of a V8 plus the aftermarket support. I'd rather stick with my 7M, 2JZ, OR even a 1JZ but for the V8 lovers this could be really cool, and really fast. Especially if you bolted up a supercharger, good exhaust, and an ecu flash, you'd be pushing serious power at low rpm's. Any thoughts?

If I swapped, I'd prolly go with a 1jz or 2jz or a built 7M, but if I did go V8 supra I'd say an LS2 from GM, and most likely supercharge it. Its more expensive than an ls1 but has the same aftermarket support, better overall design, and its just bad for a V8.

i would stick with the Toyota Engine just cause i am a nutter that way

I think true sacrilidge would be to swap in a RB engine from Nissan or shuv a 4 banger in a Supra. Might be ecinomical but... come...on...LOL

N E ways there are a ton of Probes and 240SX's out there if people really wanted a four banger.

Or why not try going with a German Engine. Like something out of a M3 or M5 if it would fit??? i am not thinking cost though

If i could get my hands on an I6 from TVR i would be a happy man 3.7L I6
4XX HP stock and shit loads of tourque. would be tempremental though and not much aftermarket but hey that would be unique and posible fun in a wierd sorta way

*IF* I were ever to get a severe head injury that made me think that putting anything but a turbo 6 into a Supra was ok, I'd have to go with the Toyota motor.

However, why screw with perfection?

Supracentral, as I agree that turbo 6 is the way to go, I was throwing this out there for the few and far between v8 lovers who may not have thought of this, just curious as to what people would choose, but I agree with what ya say turbo 6 for me baby.

LOL IJ, You can buy the LS2 meant for the C6 Z06 which makes 510 hp stock, I like my 7m and am going to build it but I wish I had a 2jz, toyota messed up they put the good engine (2jz) into the not so cool looking (mk4), if there had been 2JZ's in MK3's I would be a hppy happy lil boy, all we can do is do a 1jz which still isn't a 2jz, LOL.

yea actually banks makes a relativeley cheap Twin turbo kit for the 350 chevy small block which is similar or the same as the LS1 and 2 if I am correct. Some have been put into trucks etc but I bet it would work in a car too, looks like good kit and banks makes good products my grandpa sells them for diesel thru his shop, might be the way to go lol.

If my 7M drops it's bundle it LS for me I have the driveline to take XXXrwhp and there's nothing to stop me bolting some Turbo's on ;)

did you really just say that? :3d_frown: i don't think i could ever bring myself to do it. Its like having to shove a 6 Inch Needle through your eye while staring right at it. Just cause it was the quicker way to your brain

I'm all for a Chevy V8 swap, but only if it's done right and not a hack job. It's only sacrilidge if you have a hole in your hood to fit the air cleaner and stray and cut wires everywhere.

I'll tell you, as someone who has owned an LS-1 powered car (2000 Trans Am) I've got some experience messing with them.

A lot of the power that is made by that motor is due to the PCM (what GM calls the ECU) programming and how aggressive that motor is with timing.

If you decide to mess with the LS-1/LS-2/LS-7 be sure to incorporate integrating the engine managment as well.

I'll tell you from experience, if you couple one of those with the GM 6-speed, it's a BLAST to drive.

Yeah a buddy I know has an 01 WS6 6 speed and has reprogrammed ECU, intake, intake manifold, headers, and then cat delete and cat back, and ignition as well as a new cam, its a fun car to ride in, I have yet to drive it.
