A little help if you will.

So I have a 88 turbo automagic, I recently bought it with a blown head gasket and have been spending the last two months fixing it. It's all back together now and it doesn't want to cold start. My timing is dead on and adjusting it one way or another doesn't change the issue. When it warms up it will start just fine the only noticable issue being a hesitation when hitting the throttle and every now and then if I chop it it will choke but might catch itself. The boost guage reads -4 all the time. (After starting at zero during start up) I did have an open air filter on it but went back to the stock box wondering if it was messing with the mas.
Any input is appreciated, thanks.

By 'timing is dead on', do you mean the ignition timing?
Can you verify that the cam timing is definitely correct?

ps- Love the new pic, JJ. It should be entitled- "Meanwhile, Down under..."
OR- "Meanwhile, during I.J.'s commute"...

Both ignition timing and cam timing are solid. (Verified with a timing light) cold start appears to be functioning and sometimes it will catch but it will spit and sputter for a sec and then die. Turbo spools, the car will eventually start with some throttle play and patience and once it does it is fine until it sets and cools down.

Check the csi time switch like jetjock said. It's the temp sender that is on top of the t stat housing.

Do the simple things;

Check for tight connections at all four points- TPS, AFM and both KS plugs.
If no changes,
Test and adjust TPS per TSRM.
Test AFM per TSRM.
Have you done a knock sensor rewire yet on this car?

Reset the codes and confirm they come back. Fix the lower numbers first, especially 31. Right now its in limp mode. No wonder you're having trouble with cold starts.

I don't know about this rewire. I did have to splice a new connector on the back one by the starter but the connections on the mas feel good though the Tps is questionable.

Alright so I think the Tps may be causing most of my issues. The 31 went away but the 41 and 52 are still there I'm gonna drop a Tps and see what happens.

Drop a tps? Just test the resistances per the tsrm, and adjust its position if necessary.

Use the search function for "knock sensor rewire" there's a number of threads about it.
With a code 52, you're losing half your wot power.

Ks not used for starting. Not used below 500 rpm.

400 rpm. But it's true, injector duration is only temperature based below that, however both AFM freq and load are calculated after the second NE pulse is received and are used to drive the transition from cranking to light off.

In any case, I assumed the OP was having trouble with drivability during warmup rather than not starting at all, even though he says it doesn't want to cold start, his next sentence says "after warmup" so apparently it does start!. Code 31 will impact warmup drivability.

Maybe OP can comment.
